**This money, however, will be used for St. Meinrad. Some will go for scholarships, and it will also help raise teacher salaries, renovate dormitories for the seminarians and make other improvements, including a new $5.2 million retreat center.**

Looks like the money is going to be well spent.

Don't be too sure.
The main chapel was gutted in mid 1970s and then left that way for 25 years while they figured out how they wanted to "do liturgy" and "do Eucharist", which helped them discern how to organize their "worship space".

High altar and tabernacle were replaced by a giant imposing pipe organ.

Altar is in the very center of the church.

Rows of chairs are lined up along the left and right sides, oriented just like the monks' choir stalls - everyone facing each other.

Monks and laymen are expected to "process" to the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist portion of the Mass. There they stand throughout the consecration.

The tabernacle - while extremely beautiful and frequently visited by moonks and laymen alike - is hiddne behind the giant organ.

This I know because I was there just weeks after the re-modeled church re-opened.

St. Meinrad's is teeming with heretical monks - although the leadership is attempting to place orthodox people in charge of theology, etc.

Archbishop Beuchlein of Indianapolis is a monk from this archabbey. He is solid on paper but weak in practice (meaning he is a paper tiger). But he did take over a ridiculously heretical diocese. But that was almost 10 years ago.

I pray the archabbey will recover, but don't trust any of these monks without vetting them.

Yes, going to Holy Mass here is, well, another experience that is for sure. There are those who will kneel during the consecration on the little "chair kneelers" (although I cannot recall if the monks do-----I wouldn't look).

The Altar is, IMO, nothing more than a giant looking jack-in-the-box. Yeah, the "worship space" is very nice that is for sure, but I would rather go to Holy Mass somewhere that LOOKS more like a place which is built for the Holy Sacrifice.

You are correct about the heretical monks (some, not all, and they have done great damage). If these heretics have ever read an encyclical on the Holy Eucharist it was to point out where a Holy Father was "wrong".

Much, much damage has been done by this place. However, the soon-to-be-retiring Archabbot Lambert has done very well in the name of Holy Mother Church. To turn this aircraft carrier on a dime will take a very long time.

[huge sigh] LONG way to go yet.

I do like the tabernacle "chapel" - other than its hidden location.

Ten years ago they also had a very nice old smaller chapel that I think has since been ripped apart.

But my favorite thing at the abbey is the old chapter room with the colorful murals (done by a European monk).

I have a pretty healthy wife, but if anything were to happen to her, I might still consider it. But it better happen soon, because I don't want to be so old that I would be a burden to the community.

I would not even look back on the world. I would be very happy praying, reading, and contemplating our Lord. I do that anyway, but not on such a regular basis.

If I am not thinking of Our Lord, I am speaking of Him, and if the conversation doesn't go that way, I'm not interested - just let me go back to contemplating.

You have no idea how much I consider the time wasted, while pretending to be interested and carry on a conversation about other matters.

What do they do that's heretical? Serious question as I don't know.

My thoughts exactly - but I think the tiles are original to the 19th century.

Thank you for your first-hand account. I wondered about things when I went to their site and saw the Ben word.

So it appears they DO need our PRAYERS to return to the original intent of their vows.

Lord have mercy!

Claiming the new Catechism is hogwash (because its moral theology is too pre-Vatican II).

That is what I was told on a retreat at Meinrad by one of these monks.

There are many other specifics which I will not list.

Jesus is on a stick. It is a nice processional cross, but very small.

Its right above the "presider's chair" - which itself is where the altar should be.
