The Rapture is a false doctrine, but it certainly does not originate with sola scriptura. It is a fact that the rapture theology was not born out of the Tradition held by either Catholics or Orthodox. In that respect, it is uniquely Protestant. Since a rejection of said Tradition in favor of "Scripture Alone" was part and parcel of the Reformation, I don't think Destro's statement can be fairly dismissed out of hand.

So any crazy idea that any Protestant has can be attributed to trying to stick to the Bible? I don't buy it. Either the Rapture is in the Bible, or it's not. Since it's false, it's not. Therefore, the idea did not originate in Scripture, but in man-made corruption of Scripture. Man-made corruption of Scripture is not a "uniquely Protestant" phenomenon.
