Footnote 14 is a long-winded explanation of why "pro multis" really means "pro omnibus."

Still PC-silly.

Looks like we will go back to (striking breastthree times) in the Confiteor:
"Through my fault,
Through my fault,
Through my most grievous fault."

Somehow I knew that the Nicene Creed was going to be
"I believe"
rather than
"We believe"
Was there a previously posted thread on it or something?

I seem to recall that thread also. Something about the "We believe" being one of those hippy-dippy "it's all good karma, dude - let's hold hands" proclivities of the American bishops in the late 60's. Now we are going back to "I believe" which was the proper intent.

There was a previous thread.
I guess we should be thankful for what we can get - and not quibble about what we DIDN'T get.
The old Episcopal 1928 Prayer book was "I believe" - the new book changed it about the same time as VCII.
The Latin, of course, has always been "credo" - I believe.

A major change:
Priest: "The Lord be with you."
All: "And with your spirit."

Pyro,
Thanks for posting this. I'll be back to check out the rest of the Mass. Very interesting since I am also referencing a current missalette. See you later. (Have Pastoral Council Discernment tomorrow, and have lots of work to do.)

**I can't remember the last time we recited the Confiteor at Mass**
That is sad. It doesn't always happen as Masses I attend, but it happens more often than just the
"Lord, have mercy,"
Christ, have mercy<
Lord, have mercy."

An interesting tidbit about the Nicene Creed which a priest friend told me. A true hagiographer in his heart, he is the most knowledgeable person I've met on the lives of the Saints.
I happened to hear his homily on the Feast of St. Nicholas (Dec. 6). Yes, that one - whom the secular culture has made into Santa Claus. St. Nicholas of Myra was a bishop, and was present at the Council of Nicea - from which we have the Nicene Creed, of course. Nicholas was a fierce defender of of Our Lord's divine Sonship and substance, and as such fought strenuously against the Arian heresy.
The story goes that Arius appeared at the Council, and made some insulting remarks about the Blessed Mother, at which Nicholas slugged him, knocking Arius out cold. For this reason, St. Nicholas is also known as the Patron Saint of boxers. :-)
But back to the Nicene creed. My priest friend said that the part in the creed which speaks of "God from God, light from light, true God from true God" was authored by St. Nicholas.

Well, so much for the new "tradition" of benevolence an peace in the early church. I love it.

It's an improvement, but I really think they need to address the pro multis/pro omnibus issue properly.
