Brigham Young on the Insufficiency of the Blood of Christ
Deseret News; JOD Vol 4, pp 53-54 | 1856 | Brigham Young

Posted on 04/21/2004 4:32:43 AM PDT by ksen

"There are sins that men commit for which they cannot receive forgiveness in this world, or in that which is to come, and if they had their eyes open to see their true condition, they would be perfectly willing to have their blood spilt upon the ground, that the smoke thereof might ascend to heaven as an offering for their sins; and the smoking incense would atone for their sins, whereas, if such is not the case, they will stick to them and remain upon them in the spirit world. "I know, when you hear my brethren telling about cutting people off from the earth, that you consider it is strong doctrine; but it is to save them, not to destroy them....

"And further more, I know that there are transgressors, who, if they knew themselves, and the only condition upon which they can obtain forgiveness, would beg of their brethren to shed their blood, that the smoke thereof might ascend to God as an offering to appease the wrath that is kindled against them, and that the law might have its course. I will say further; I have had men come to me and offer their lives to atone for their sins.

"It is true that the blood of the Son of God was shed for sins through the fall and those committed by men, yet men can commit sins which it can never remit.... There are sins that can be atoned for by an offering upon an altar, as in ancient days; and there are sins that the blood of a lamb, or a calf, or of turtle dove, cannot remit, but they must be atoned for by the blood of the man." (Sermon by Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 4, pages 53-54); also published in the Mormon Church's Deseret News, 1856, page 235)

And the websites themselves admit they carry no authority from, or acceptance by, the LDS church whatsoever...

Isn't that convenient? If you get caught in a doctrinal pinch you just change the doctrine to suit your current purposes. Truth is never constant but always relative. I don't understand how these people can live in a continual state of cognitive dissonance.

Sadly you are consumed on faultfinding....

She says as she finds fault with Alex's post.

Here's a cat pic for ya!

Look at the cat on the left. He looks entirely too calm, probably because he never wonders "what's that stuff the kid has stretched out across his violin bow?"

As the famous violinist said when complimented on his ability to use his bow, "No guts, no glory."

If you are a True Christian you would NOT neither!

Bearing in mind that Mormons tend to get all upset when we say that if you're a true Christian you'd believe in the Biblical doctrine of the Trinity, that's funny. As if your relations toward cats said more than your relations toward God.

But it doesn't answer my question. Just tell me which is worse. I'm going somewhere with this.

Is this not the topic of your threadt to find fault with the LDS?

Is it not true you want to SPAR with the LDS?

Is it not true you can't stand to read positive things about the LDS?

When good news appears about LDS you want to erase any good news and replace it with yellow journalism?

Is this not really showing a lack of faith in God when one engages in this kind of behavior?

I have come to discern that there are more Freepers who are aware of a reputation of a few who are consistently being absurd and inane towards the LDS.

You missed my point when you are walking with the Lord the thought would never enter your mind!

It is contray to the the will of God and spiritual laws!

That is why when we are here it is important to repent and pray always to stay focus!

Because I have freewill I must choose daily so I pray to My Heavenly Father to let him know

Thy Will Be Done, Not My Will Oh Lord!

THE LORD PRAYER
Our father which art in heauen, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdome come. Thy will be done, in earth, as it is in heauen. Giue vs this day our daily bread. And forgiue vs our debts, as we forgiue our debters. And lead vs not into temptation, but deliuer vs from euill: For thine is the kingdome, and the power, and the glory, for euer, Amen.

I get your point, and it's wrong. Nowhere are we promised protection from evil thoughts or even actions, just, for the elect, protection from full or final apostasy.

Now, for either a believer or an unbeliever (it really doesn't matter which), which is worse?

I suppose you see the problem with BY's teaching that you need to hope that BY didn't mean what he said.

No, I just don't think he said what you said he said.

You still haven't answered whether your God will forgive unrepentant sinners, and exactly how a murderer can repent. I believe Moses had a few ideas in his time (which were not his ideas), but then you (all) reject the OT completely don't you? Despite God's clear statements in many places that "...this shall be a statute forever throughout your generations...".

BTW, I have used the term may in some of my responses merely to avoid the dogmatism that permeates most of the anti-mormon threads on FR. I find this particular subject too boring to take the time to give authoritative chapter and verse responses. That, and the fact that no matter how much "proof" I give of the Mormon position, you will refuse to accept it.

Now, if you want to discuss the lame-brained anti argument made in an earlier response in this thread that no archeaological evidence of the Book of Mormon has been discovered, that is a subject which interests me, and for which I can provide ample authoritative response. But please start another thread for that discussion and ping me. My time is limited to respond, so it may take a day or two.

You've said a couple times a murderer can't repent. Why not?

When you can provide a scan of the map of the Americas (the one that shows the locations of the BoM cities), such as is found in the back of your Book of Mormon, I myself would be delighted to entertain your "ample authoritative response". With what authority do you speak for the Church? Is it greater than the authority that FAIR and FARMS purports to speak from?

Your #112: What about if someone reveals the Temple ceremonies? Is that a crime which the Blood of Christ will not remit and the person must pay the price with their own blood?

No. It is not in the same ballpark with taking an innocent human life.

You are more than welcome to see if you can find an official position to this and other questions at lds.org. I don't believe that there is an "Official Responses to Questions" section, but you can try looking for one.

However, if you sincerely want to increase your general understanding of how such topics like this are typically defended by members who have taken the time to do research, FAIR and FARMS are a very good resource.
