Mark 9:38-40 John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. For he who is not against us is for us."

I guess not everyone was "formally" appointed.

BTW-Paul went to the Gentiles. Peter to the Jews. You Catholics need to focus more on your group. :O)

I know it's a longstanding and venerable FR tradition, but you could try to read the article before posting. ;-)

It clearly argues that there are 2 Scriptural ways that the authoritative office of bishop/apostle is carried on into the future. Through "formal" appointment, as you put it. The laying on of hands from one with authority.

Second is a direct calling from God, which requires miraculous signs, like Paul was called. So your Scriptural citation falls flat. Jesus is affirming our position. Those being questioned in it were not "formal" aposltes, but they had the miracles to back them up.

I would like to see someone address the article, instead of all the kneejerking and distracting.
