The National Catholic Reporter has come out with an editorial in favor of the Massachusetts court ruling calling for legal recognition of same-sex "marriage." The Reporter sees this decision as a "beneficial step along the path of human understanding and human rights."
If you look beyond the editorial, to the back pages that carry the classified ads, you'll see that American bishops routinely advertise in the Reporter when they plan to hire people for diocesan posts.
So the bishops are staffing their chanceries with people who read-- and, presumably, as a rule agree with-- the Reporter's editorials.
Suddenly it all comes into focus, doesn't it?

This is a sad day for catholic. By embracing same sex marriage. The catholic church loses the high moral ground. Some thing the catholic church need especially in light of homosexual running rapid in the priest hood, commiting crimes against children. Where will decent people go now, that catholic church has run afoul? Going against the bible teaching of homosexuals. Something that Islamist will have a field day with in the not so far away future.

The Catholic Church is not embracing same-sex marriages. Some Catholics embrace it, just as some Catholics embrace contraception and abortion.
The Church doesn't.

The National "Catholic" Reporter doesn't speak for the church, or for the vast majority of Catholics, for that matter.
Nothing has changed in church teaching despite NCR's wishful thinking.

What difference does it make if it's the Church's policy if it's not enforced? Not to get into a "family" issue, but I would think the RCC needs to get tough and weed this out of the church like abortion. If it is true that 30-60% of clergymen are gay then it won't be long before policy will be based upon this life style. Turning a blind eye to sin is not any better than condoning it.

Does the NCR atleast come with some kind of warning label "may contain heresy"It doesn't. The only clue comes from the NCR's subtitle The Independent Newsweekly.

Rose homosexuality is shown to be the major factor in the 'vocation crisis.' Normal healthy young men don't want to stay in over-queered seminaries.

Thank for clarifying. But the church should bring the NCR back in line with church teaching, and purpose. And put a end to this conspiracy being commit-ed in the editorial back pages. Should it not? Lease the apathy to respond becomes a sin and a motovation to continue to spread their agenda.

Shut them down! There was a time when I would have been calling Chanceries and the USCCB demanding that they make statments condemning this editorial and stating that the publication is not a publication of the Catholic Church or of the USCCB.
I no longer care what the bishops do. The focus must be on prayer, fasting, reparation, and penance, penance, penance. America is about to suffer great tribulation and devastation.

I should clarify -- I no longer care what the bishops do about these sorts of things. I don't think they are able at the moment to do more than act as a pale imitation of parliamentary democracy. If the bishops want to be bishops and lead by example, by the way of martyrdom, then I care deeply. Lead us in the way of penance.

This is a sad day for catholic. By embracing same sex marriage. The catholic church loses the high moral ground. I have been arguing for some time, against our buddy Sinkspur, that the National "Catholic" Reporter is NOT a Catholic publication. It is, in fact, the MOST ANTI-CATHOLIC paper published in the US of A.
Please, check out,
The anti-Catholicism of the "National Catholic Reporter"

But the church should bring the NCR back in line with church teaching, and purpose. And put a end to this conspiracy being commit-ed in the editorial back pagesCan't. It's independently published, meaning it doesn't depend on the Church for funding. Now, lots of bishops condemn the Reporter, but it's probably read by more bishops and priests than any other weekly.
The NCR is edgy, to be sure. That's why it's been around since 1965.
If you want the official line, go to The Wanderer or The Register.
