I think perhaps you should all walk away from it for awhile before a bunch of you get suspended or banned. |

Maybe not. ksen has received a suspension, probably as a result of that post.
The stated reason? "Taunting the moderator".
How many Mormons have showed up on this thread? i only count one. Never thought that i'd see the day that i took up for Mormons, but wonders never cease. No, you are not correct on this point. One Mormon does not count as a flame war between Calvinists and Mormons. You could be construed as slandering the Mormons with that particular comment. The rest of the Mormon Posters have been strangely absent from this thread.
So you've arranged vacations for Two Calvinists simply because of ONE HABITUAL AGITATOR who just happens to be a Mormon? Sorry, but that's a strange definition of a flame war between Mormons and Calvinists.
Many of you will be tempted to hasten to assure me that you did not personally attack, insult or flame anyone. It is, however, just one more temptation to which you should not acquiesce.
Give it a rest, will ya? OrthodoxPresbyterian has already defined and defended his position in his usual eloquent style, and for my own purposes, i have not contributed to this thread at all until this post. i simply don't have a dog in this fight at the moment, or any interest in betting on one.
It is a fact that "JR and the Moderators" (that 60s band, ya know) do not like or countenance "flame wars" for any length of time, regardless of their origins or topics.
Sorry, i got the comments out of order, but it shouldn't interrupt the flow of thoughts in any way...
This being the case, perhaps all would be better served if you suggested to the ONE PARTICULAR AGITATOR who just happens to be a Mormon, that his efforts would be better expended elsewhere. Such a suggestion might, and probably would not require any sanctions what-so-ever. White Mountain can "read tea leaves" at least as well as any of us. BTW, i did ping White Mountain to this particular post as a courtesy, since he is a principle in the discussion and for no other reason. It is something that until recently he was loath to do for others, and i congradulate him on the change of behaviour. This has been a positive step.
As for the other issues, Think about it.
It seems to me that this was clearly a Calvinist thread.
Someone comes here for the purpose to disrupt and possible get some more of the BOM adversaries banned. Do any wonder why a Mormon might like to see Calvinists "get lost"?
Luk 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you [from their company], and shall reproach [you], and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
I'm humbled and gratified by the way you guys have stuck up for me. Really. But I think I need to correct a misunderstanding here:
The Religion Moderator said he wasn't going to tolerate any Mormon-Calvinist flame wars. GREAT!! If anyone wants to check my posting history over the last, oh, let's say a year or more... they will find that I haven't initiated a Discussion with White Mountain in many, many months. Frankly, I have no desire to do so -- I have only responded to his Posts to me.
And I'd be happy as a clam if White Mountain didn't Post to me at all... when he can so horribly misunderstand my theology of Good Works as to criticize me with observations like the following:
It's clear to me that the gentleman is so unconcerned with actually reading my Posts before he challenges me thereupon, I despair of making any progress with the fellow, and only hope to correct his (latest) mis-representation of my efforts.
And that's just a frustrating waste of time. I respond anyway, when White Mountain posts to me, because I hate to see someone completely misrepresent my Posts and claim victory over the straw-man they have thence constructed... but I never voluntarily initiate a discussion with White Mountain. It wastes valuable time I could be spending with Lutherans and Eastern Orthodox and Augustinian Catholics and Undecided Christians and other such interesting People who have interesting things to say, and who are (at least on occasion) willing to actually read what I write and actually learn from Reformed Christianity.
So when the Religion Moderator fired a shot across our bows -- both Me, and White Mountain (the RM flagged us both, after all), was I offended? NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST!!
Frankly, the Religion Moderator's "warning" gave me a GOLDEN opportunity to put White Mountain on the spot, and implore him to stop humping my leg like an excited chihuahua and leave me alone.
He hasn't posted to me since, not even to accept my "gentleman's agreement" to Not Post to eachother. If this state of affairs should continue... I'm pleased as punch.
So please, my fellow Calvinists: don't get yourselves Suspended "defending" me against a Moderator Warning which has -- at least so far -- had a very desirable affect to Yours Truly.
Ergo, I continue to DIS-BELIEVE in the alleged "Anti-Calvinist conspiracy", and (aside from the unfortunate suspensions suffered by some of my defenders), I'm entirely satisfied with the apparent outcome of the Moderator's Warning.
And that's the way OP sees it.
best, OP
Quick, everyone! Check under your beds to make sure no one slipped a pod under there while you were sleeping. And keep your eyes open in the morning for neighbors' trash cans filled with grey fluff! They're here! Whatever you do, don't go to sleep! You're next!
---------------------------------------------
All kidding aside, OP, thanks for an insightful post. Never looked at the situation from that perspective before.
Frankly, the Religion Moderator's "warning" gave me a GOLDEN opportunity to put White Mountain on the spot, and implore him to stop humping my leg like an excited chihuahua and leave me alone.
I just can't conceived the spirit of the Lord stoop to conquer ~ IMHO
What?!
Egads, that's not even English.
I exhort you to address me in similar terms, for example:
To White Mountain, my faithful brother in Christ, saved by grace through faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and in His atoning and saving power, greetings and best wishes to you and yours for health and prosperity ...... and then politely present your views on the meaning of Scripture, in this case (#309/#331) on grace, faith, "good works", the "works of the Law" of Moses, and obedience to the commandments of God.
Instead, there have been a bunch of false accusations:
OP's #333: So unless you Repent, White Mountain, remember this -- when you stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ, being charged with the Crime of calling Jesus "Satan's brother", you chose this.
CalGal's #337: How sad for you White mountain to be so utterly blinded with pride and to be so far from God in every way, shape and form.
CDL's #365: ONE HABITUAL AGITATOR
Can you find it in you to address me as I truly should be addressed, as I exhorted above?
As I have said many times before, and happily and joyfully say again, I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, Redeemer, Lord, and God, who died for us, atoned for our sins, rose from the dead the third day, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father, of whom God the Holy Spirit bears witness, and of whom I bear witness.
I have entered in at the gate, which is repentance and baptism, having faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.* I am on the strait and narrow path. I have been ordained to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and administer the ordinances thereof, serving as I do under the direction of true and living apostles of Jesus Christ and prophets of God, who are sent by the Lord Jesus Christ to preside over His Restored Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Now I will repost my #331, and you are welcome to repost your follow-on posts in a cordial and civil manner, without insult or accusation.
(You have to admit, if you were willing to post to me in this way, it would go a long way toward the civility we need to have here.)

* This was written around 550 BC by a prophet of God, of the tribe of Manasseh, born and raised in the land of Jerusalem and "transplanted" in the Western Hemisphere, who was shown in vision that Jesus Christ would come to Earth and be baptized (among many other things) to show us the Way.
