It is odd indeed. I think it is a purposeful categorization comparable to the "educated Catholic women" earlier. It's designed to make the reader think, "Which side are you on?" Note how cardinal Stafford is presented as an oddball "
despite being American" :)
My question is, if, according to Allen, the Vatican is run by thick unprofessionals and the "Anglo-Saxons" do things with expertise, then why is all from the Vatican so clever, and almost all from the NCCB so painfully dumb?
