The scuttlebut is that the Curia was under tremendous pressure to send an LA bishop to Phoenix, effectively making the Phoenix diocese an adjunct to the LA diocese. Thank God that didn't happen.

Mahonyesque styles of worship have a way of trickling out all across California. I live in central CA and I can assure you, we are suffering the effects of local liturgists who have been to workshops in Los Angeles. It is a virtual impossibility that a diocese as close as San Diego has not been affected by Mahony. The SD Bishop hails from the 'conservative' bastion of Minnesota and banished the Tridentine to the mausoleum. That tells me everything I need to know about him.

Browse the SD diocesan website. Particularly look at the parish of St. Mary Magdalene, er, Morticia. Tell me how many of those parishes look orthodox.

I don't call California the western heresy belt for nothing.

Fresno, Monterey, SF, it's all bad. San Jose isn't great (except for Our Lady of Peace) but I understand Una Voce is petitioning the Bishop for a FSSP priest. Oakland is bad but Bishop Vigneron looks like he's trying. He is in talks with FSSP and Christ the King. Then there's Sacramento with Bishop Weigand. He has a FSSP parish and a pretty orthodox approach. His may be the best diocese in CA.

Thanks for the picture of the Holy Cross mausoleum in SD. I live in Arizona now but many of my close family members are buried here, including my father and both sets of grandparents. My paternal grandfather is buried just to the left of the building in this picture.

BTW, does anyone in the southern Orange County know of a good, orthodox Roman Catholic parish in, say, the Laguna Niguel/Dana Point/Mission Viejo area?

Here's a link to Una Voce of OC's webpage. I see some links and parishes mentioned.

Below is a listing of Indult Traditional Masses in California. If you scroll down you will see a couple of OC parishes listed.
