The real thrust of this article is positive, IMO, and the reason why Calvin believed church structure was as important as doctrine.
While apostates pop up everywhere, the fact that the Presbyterian Church has a horizontal hierarchy to which all churches must submit in matters of doctrine is a postive, strengthening, righteous safe-guard -- a checks-and-balance system that the American Constitution copied for good reason.
So the important message of this article is that the General Assembly reaffirmed that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, as did the 2002 General Assembly in the following article, and as will all future General Assemblies, God willing.

Sorry to diasagree (hopefully without being disagreeable), but I don't think that the Presbyterian heirarchy is of much use in this instance.
What does it matter if the "official" viewpoint is orthodox if what is being preached and believed is heresy (wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)
As a Baptist, I believe that our "bottom up" structure has contributed greatly to our continuing adherence to the truth of Scripture. Not only do the SBC proclamations support truth, they are grounded in belief in that truth at the local level.
