On Chanukah, the Jewish people light the Menorah, the sacred 9 branch Lampstand. Every night another light is lit. The problem is, there are 8 days of Chanukah - but 9 candles on the Menorah. What is the ninth candle? It is the Shamash. The Shamash is the candle that is lit first. Every night the Shamash lights up every other candle.
Shamash means the SERVANT. The Hebrew prophets called Messiah the servant. Messiah came as the servant. Messiah is the SHAMASH, the Light that lights up all others. It is written of Him, "He is the true light that gives light to every man." He said, "I am the Light of the world. He who follows me...will have the light of life." He is the Shamash, the light that touches you, to make your life a light to others. Don't just know Him...LET HIM TOUCH YOU! Let yourself be touched and your life won't be able to help but become a shining light. He is not just the Light - He is your light. And it is written, "Arise & Shine! For your Light has come - Messiah is the Shamash.
TODAY'S MISSION
Close your eyes and draw close to His presence as you light the menorah tonight. Thank Him with a song of praise from your heart. Thank Him for being your Light and for always being beside you - for His presence in all the days of your life.
