I have to find the papers our diocese and parish are using as guides - my computer crash a few weeks ago has led to some disarray! - to quote exactly how adamant they were against all of the above. I was asked to be a facilitator or think about it, and while I wasn't sure I wanted to be a facilitator, I was interested in taking the 'course', but was unable to fit it in. Basically, they follow a strict script, scripted by the diocese, of q&a, questions to make one think, no wrong answers - even if someone's answer is diametrically opposed to Catholic teaching. No bible study, no prayer, no rosary (that was capitalized) and no arguing. Meet, have a snack, listen to meditations, including 'eastern religions', basically anything goes. Many of the members of the committee who studied this for a dozen with a very heretical pastor we had at that time (he was sent away after only 1 or 2 yrs, no explanation) have worked in secret and planned this and had their own small group since then. Many of them are on the council and are educators and other people of 'standing' in the church. Already people who have spoken out about it or questioned it are being ostracized. I have held my tongue thus far.
Excuse the rant. You are right, this will only add confusion upon confusion and our parish, in particular, has really lost its way. Thank you for your prayers. Most every Roman (or formerly so?) Catholic church in the US is experiencing some kind of thing like this, it is so important for us to pray for us all.
NO! This is absolutely crazy! How can they turn people away?
Like many local parishes, mine holds Confessions for 45 minutes on Saturday. The lines are short because many locals prefer to go to Confession at a local chapel in a strip mall, that is run by the Franciscans. They have Confessions throughout the day - every day!
Here is a link to their homepage. Perhaps you can email them and locate a chapel in your community.
19 Now when it was late the same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said to them: Peace be to you.
20 And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you.
22 When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost.
23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them: and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.
24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, who is called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
Our parish priest told me he is actually more comfortable when people use the screen. He hears confessions three different times a week and is a very wonderful pastor. We are blessed to have him.
NASBU 1 Peter 2:1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, 3 if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. 4 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For this is contained in Scripture: "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." 7 This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone," 8 and, "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE"; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. 9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

As we enter the Season of Advent, it is a good time to 'take stock' of ourselves and prepare for the arrival of our King and Savior.
Confession bump!
