I do believe that's the one concession they want us Orthodox to make. After all, its we who regard the filioque as heretical. You insist we are simply schismatics and not heretics. No worries, we can all still call Arians (e.g. Jehovah's Witnesses), Nestorians (e.g. adherents of the "Unity Church" based out of KC, and the Church of the East), and Monophysites (oops, I forgot the same group says that was all just a problem with language, too. . .) heretics.

Of course it's a little odd--and typical of ecumenists--that at the same time they ask us not to call your formula heretical, they ask you to abandon it by repudiating Lyons and accepting the Greek text of the Niceo-Constantinoplitan creed as normative.

Actually, the RC does consider the Orthodox to be in communion with the RC; it is the OC which denies the communion of the two churches. (The RC does caution OC communicants to obey the discipline of their own church and refrain from receiving RC communion; and likewise requests its own members to respect the OC Churches they visit and abstain from communion there also.)

I personally believe that Lyons can be interpreted legitimately to be in conformity with Blachernae if there is interest on both sides in doing so.

No, we insist you are disobedient, not schismatics. Schism implies a purposeful will to seperate from the Church. But the Orthodox have never done that.

David, wouldn't it be ironic if the Holy Spirit (despite the Greek or Latin theological conceptions re His progression/actions) was leading our two Communions to a reconciliation and you found yourself on the outside of each condemning both?
