"That's hardly all of it. "
Rule #1 of analytic tought : seperate issues.
This thread is about why people believe in Evolution Theory. I admit that implicitly in the title I also mix that issue with two other :
- why is evolution a lie ?
- for people convinced it's a lie : why is evolution the most devastating of all lies ?
To stick for the moment to the core issue of this thread :
No, I don't agree with you. I think that among believers in evolution less than 0,00001% believe in it based on the analysis of the parts of skulls, sculptures or whatever those things are that you have on that photo.

*nod* I'll agree with what you're getting there easily enough. 99.9% of those who believe in evolution don't believe it because they've actually checked out the theory or have the slightest idea how genetic mutations can possibly cross pollinate across species.

They believe they know the answer to the most fundamental questions of all existence because they were completely indoctrinated in that belief in school. Anyone who didn't believe it was on the "wacko fringe". You didn't actually need to know anything about it to believe it - you just needed to know that you were an idiot if you didn't.

And 99.9% of the evolution crowd accepts that on what is absolutely indistinguishable from what Christians call Faith.

Me? I've read up on it. While it makes some compelling arguments, there are also some glaring holes. I remain unconvinced. That's why I'm agnostic, and not an atheist.

Back in Darwin's day, the known fossil record was so poor that he was reduced to predicting that a lot more transitional fossils were bound to show up, and that they would further outline what already looked to him like a diverging family tree of common ancestry. He proved to be right in spades.

The fossil record is one of about 29 such lines of evidence. If it isn't why most people believe in evolution--I have no idea where you're going there--it should be.

why is evolution the most devastating of all lies ?

Because in your universe you are in charge of the truth?
