FW man killed hanging out car

Police, driver say father of 6 stuck head out window, hit sign pole when truck swerved

01:04 AM CDT on Sunday, October 12, 2003

By MICHAEL GRABELL / The Dallas Morning News

A Fort Worth father of six who had just married his longtime sweetheart was killed early Saturday when he stuck his head of out a pickup truck window and hit a sign pole, police and the driver of the pickup said.

The passenger, Shawn Garrison, 26, died from head injuries suffered when he struck the sign, the Tarrant County medical examiner ruled.

A woman told police that Mr. Garrison had been hanging his head out the window around 1 a.m. in the 4300 block of Panola Avenue, near Lancaster Avenue at Oakland Boulevard in East Fort Worth.

The driver, Kenneth Turnbull Jr., said Saturday night that a car had cut in front of him, forcing him to swerve and hop a curb, when Mr. Garrison struck a speed-limit sign.

Mr. Turnbull, 26, said his longtime friend was always looking out for others.

"He was a good guy, friends with everybody. He'd give you the shirt off his back," he said. "He liked helping people. He'd see the homeless people, and he'd go to McDonald's and buy about 20 burgers and take it down to the homeless people."

Mr. Turnbull said Mr. Garrison was a house painter who had five boys and one girl, ages 2 to 10. He said the family would often go fishing or hunting together.

Mr. Garrison had been dating his wife for 11 years before getting married to her this July, Mr. Turnbull said. The pair went to Hawaii on their honeymoon.

Darwin at work.

Just damn.

If you want on the new list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

The sign post as today's sabretooth tiger! A pity that it didn't hit him BEFORE he was able to procreate.

Hmmmm, very interesting. Twenty six years old and the father of so many children. "Dating" his sweetheart for 11 years while you and I paid the Medical Assistance, ADFC, WIC, and food stamp bills for their children, possibly. For some reason, I feel like he outsmarted me.

Wait a minute, he had a ten year old and was 26 and he and the mother of his children only married recently after "dating" for 11 years? What's wrong with this picture?

Considering how he died, the words in this eulogy are somewhat ironic.

Two reasons why:

1. We fear Death By Lifelong IRS Audit if we don't pay our
taxes.

2. They allow us to keep just enough of our money to maintain
us in Fat, Dumb, and Happy mode. It staves off revolution,
which would be very inconvenient for our masters.

Head sticking out of window of moving vehicle at 1:00 a.m. Vehicle moving onto sidewalk in invasive action. Why do I get the impression that a large amount of alcohol was involved?
