They didn't WANT to see it. Their jobs were too important to them to be able to see it. Wanna bet that their precious child is right now in the care of another nanny?
It seems to me that you have put your finger on the real issue: What is more important? Making money or your child?
NEVER leave a child who cannot talk with ANY stranger - day care, nanny, whatever. In fact, WHY would any mother leave a child so young in any case?
