I used to respect Ken Hamblin, but no more. I have not idea what prompts him to hold such bitterness against Rush, but I have my suspicions. He never missed a chance to trash Dr. Laura, either.
In the mid-nineties, when Marlyn Schwartz of the Dallas Morning News wrote a column describing Laura as a prima donna and telling a damning account of a contentious exchange after a lecture by Schlessinger, Hamblin interviewed Schwartz on his show. He smarmily suggested that if Dr. Laura wanted to tell the other side of the story, she could come on his show.
If Hamblin made note of the fact that Schwartz resigned from the Morning News in disgrace after sources turned out to be non-existent, I must have missed it -- after all, Dr. Laura did replace him at KSFO.

Also, where WAS Marta?FWIW It was when he became distracted with Marta that his program became >slightly< less passionate to my ears. Not that marriage was a bad thing, it's just that sometimes it tempers a man into comlacency.
God bless him for what he's done for conservatism and our country...no one can ever take that away from him.
Perhaps the best way to look at the situation is to take the take of "What does not kill me, makes me stronger." If anyone can emerge from this situation with class, dignity and stronger than before, it's Rush.
Perhaps a prayer thread or list of FReeper signatures supporting him would be in order. We could compose it, sign it and forward it to him via email or hard copy.
Just a thought.

Black conservative pingIf you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

"...makes ME look inside MYSELF for hypocrisy..." Was George Washington a hypocrite for leading a revolution against an army in which he had honorably served?
Is the plaintiff in Roe V. Wade a hypocrite because she now vocally opposes abortion?
The liberals love to toss out the word hypocrite at people who have learned the error of thir ways. If I once touched a hot stove, and learned not to do so, would I be a hypocrite for advising people to not touch a hot stove?

If *anyone* is being hypocritical, it's the self righteous band of fair weather, so called "conservatives" who are jumping on the crush Rush bandwagon. Unless, of course, they are all without sin. Thank you!!

It's absurd to expect leaders to be flawless......and to say that they're damaged when they aren't.That's correct......and it's absurd to ignore when thay have done just that.
For those who believe that both of these men have made powerful political arguments over the years, neither is "damaged."
The messages are still valid, but the messengers have lost some of the moral highground.
Nor will they be considered "damaged" among fair minded people who understand that none of us is without some human failing.
Yes, they will.

I agree - I will not turn my back on Rush. He has helped me learn too much, has helped me understand what is really going on and whether or not I should worry.
I am highly disappointed BUT - if the democrats did not have Rush to use, there would be someone else. Why do we continually worry about what the democrats will use - they will find something to use no matter what we do. If they don't have the truth - they will lie as they are doing with the war in Iraq.
I am upset about Asner's comment about Sean Hannity being the next one they go after.
None of us conservatives are perfect - we are just targets of the democrats.

Not only the gloating.. Also the knee-jerk defensive nature from those that previously had said that Rush would have a giant slander case because it wasn't true. They've gone from denial to plain nasty.

I'd say there're more than three reactions. I, for example, am sorry that he became addicted to these pills, but at the same time I understand very well how this kind of thing can happen and I have faith in the ability of men like Rush to overcome such a problem.
As far as "breaking the law," this concerns me very little. Perhaps 5% of the adult population has never broken some law. And I see no problem when those among the 95% who have make assertions that obeying the law is a good thing.

That's what I keep asking myself.
Where was Marta...how in the world could she not know????
I too am disappointed....
..he worked very hard and had reached the pinnacle of success, IMO, yet all the power, wealth and success didn't prevent this from happening.
It's a sobering thought for us all.

By whom? By the mainstream media. Yeah, yeah, I know. What do we care? The media has been flailing at Rush for a decade and a half, and what has it gotten them?
This time they have an issue that has bite to it. They'll portray this a a typical bigwig moneybags hypocrite caught in the same kind of conduct he has railed against in the past. Hey, they'll think, it worked against Newt Gingrich, right? Prepare for the onslaught. Every mention of Rush in the mainsteam media will be prefaced or appended with a reference to his stay in rehab or his addiction to strong painkillers. Every comment he makes about a rat candidate will be brushed aside with some joking comment along the lines of "Why doesn't Rush just stick to what he knows best and talk about illegally obtained drugs?"
This is going to ding his credibility. To think that it won't is probably not realistic.

lol. Pretty darned good, as always, Joe. One difference, though, is that those cases you mentioned were where opinions were subsequently changed. But, as LaRochefocauld said (and I know it's now trite), "Hypocrisy is the homage that vice pays to virtue." That statement has served me well over the years.

I don't know how you judged Democrats over the last 8 years, but here's where I stood. I objected when they lied while they claimed to be telling the truth. I objected when they did awful things to innocent people. For example, it never bothered me that Clinton might have smoked pot, but it did that he made up such a stupid lie about it. And it bothered me that he hurt so many women and then denied it.
But if I had found out that Clinton, or any other leading Democrat, had developed an addiction to pain killers after some kind of surgery, my main concern would have been that he get help right away.

He never missed a chance to trash Dr. Laura, either I've only heard Hamblin at few times, but if he's trashing Her Hypocriteness Dr Laura, he must be all right.
By the way, hasn't Dr Laura been preaching family loyalty and honoring your parents per the commandments for years?
Wasn't it Dr Laura's mother whose decomposing body was found in her apartment weeks after her death and whom Dr Laura had not called or checked on in months even though they lived in the same city?
I guess neither Laura nor Rush are hypocrites, huh?
