| Ken Hamblin on the Rita Cosby Show

Did anyone else hear the ludricrous statements that Ken Hamblin made on Rita's show just now?
Among other things, he said that "Rush was given the keys to the kingdom and let us down."
Then he proceeded to puff himself up, making a total jackass out of himself as far as I'm concerned.
I videotaped the whole segment and would replay it and transcribe it, but have to run out for a while right now.

Damaged goods? Only if you participate in their destruction.

There's an old saying: "There, but for the grace of God, go I." A couple of points. A few years ago Ken had his own problems with a sexual harrassment charge that was very believable, and was, I believe, quietly settled. The second point, though, is that conservatives are taking hits. First it was Bill Bennett, then Arnold S, and now Rush. If you're a RAT, it's just accepted behavior (sex and drugs). But lately, it seems the RATS have no corner on either market. And if Rush was buying drugs illegally, then I see no difference between that and cocaine, etc, even if a doctor initially prescribed them.
I can accept his weaknesses, just as with gambling. But it clearly weakens conservatives' moral positions, especially with our acceptance of Arnold's history of sexual activities.

I don't think so. I think what appears to be gloating on the part of most of these FReepers is a coverup for feeling betrayed. Seriously, terribly betrayed. I could be wrong.

Al Gore would be managing the negotiation on terrorism if is wasnt for Rush. There are some Freepers here who might give you an argument on that.

" will agree that it was NOT good for conservatism. Anyone who thinks this is no big deal is just plain not understanding what this means." I agree. I figure this has just made it harder for all of us. I note, however, that the Left is not held to the same standard.

I for one will be angry again, then forgive and go on.
Human failings are not the end of the world. We will go on.
But, the media will continue to poke fun of Rush, same as always. I think Rush can handle it. I think he expects it. But we must stand with him.

What I don't understand is where was Marta while this was going on?
Do you have any thoughts about this? She's such an intelligent, educated woman; you would think she would have steered him to get some physical therapy for his physical problems.

You raise a good point. I'm hoping you're right.

"One of the reasons I work for the cause where I do - local watering holes and such - is because I have too much baggage to run for office. Not drugs nor booze nor things like that but mostly financial problems I've never been able to resolve. I finally decided to just put it all behind me and do what I could for folks I believe held views similar to mine. Lately that's becoming a difficult proposition, and the Rush problem isn't gonna help."
A great post. Too many people are overly quick to point out the deficiencies of another person when they, themselves, have never walked in the shoes of the other person.

On the FR, we seem to have three general reactions to this story:
1- Denial. We don't even know if he broke the law, and if he did it is different because he got hooked by accident.
2- Condemnation. These are the Taliban Conservative types who fully support the WOD and would like to see Rush quickly destroyed and sent off to prison before he causes further embarassment to the "cause"...
3- Joy. These are the anti-WOD types who claim that it is wrong to destroy a man's life for being hooked on drugs. Except when it comes to Limabugh. For him, they can only celebrate his destruction.
Where do you stand?

The "rats" can't hurt Limbaugh's career. Only Taliban Conservatives who turn their back on him can do that.

Here's another view. Rush is not asked much on the mainstream networks as it is. Franken will always hate him, because Rush is the man Franken-stein wishes he could be.But Rush will be back on FOX, and I think he will be an ardent spokesman for conservatism once again. And he will be honest about his situation and addiction.
I sincerely hope that his story ,when he tells it, will be a help to many who silently suffer the same addiction to painkillers. It is quite pandemic in our society.
I,too, wish, all this didn't happen. What's worse is the real possibility that his deafness was a result of his addiction. He has to live with that.
When I see that complete criminals like BJ Clinton can be "rehabilitated" in the public arena, there's no way we're going to let Rush get railroaded. What he did, and as bad as it is, is no way equivalent to what some other celebrities have done and been forgiven for in our times.

From the tone of many posts I've read, so are quite a few freepers. Is there a particular reason I should judge Rush Limbaugh the same way I judged Democrats for eight long years?

Are you kidding? Toe-sucker Dick Morris, adulterer Newt Gingrich, rapist Bill Clinton, the Chap of Quiddick, and a host of other disgraced public figures are still regularly sought out for opinions, and their past "indiscretions" are never brought up.
Rush, when, Lord willing, he's clean and getting some nonaddictive pain management therapy, will continue to be asked about issues--other than football--about which he has expertise.
America forgives. America forgets. America is full of Christians who, by definition, are nothing but a bunch of redeemed screw-ups. We tend not to get on our high horses because we are acutely aware of our own weaknesses.

That a radio entertainer can truly change the political ideal of Conservatism?Read on down the thread; so far one of them has said Rush got Bush elected in 2000.

Well, swell group of choices, ambrose!
How about this one:
4. Acceptance that he is addicted, hope that he gets help, prayers that he can overcome it and that he doesn't have legal problems, and disappointment that he did something so foolish.
