So, can someone please explain "pinging" to me, since Dane requires that I do so in order for him to fail to acknowledge my points?
I'm following pretty far behind this conversation, but it looks like no one followed up on your newbie question.

If you look at the top or bottom of the thread page, you'll see some standard header links. One of those links is labeled, "My Comments". If you click on that link, you will see a display of the latest several posts you made and/or were made to you.

When you click on "Post Reply" to this comment, your comment is by default addressed To: conservatism_IS_compassion. You can remove that handle, and/or add others, as you thought you were doing by addressing your question To: anyone.

But ironically, "anyone" or "all"--as is more frequently done--doesn't "ping" anyone. That is, no one will see your comment/question in their own "my comments" page.

Since you're a newbie, and may not stumble over my response among so many others on this huge thread, I'm really afraid you'll never see my response. Unless of course you happen to hit the "my comments" button on your own initiative, in which case my response will probably be moot anyway.

Regards, c_I_c

Abuse button hit on you. I sincerely doubt that you've been a loyal fan for 12 years. You sound more like a newbie DU'er.

The Admin Mod stupidly pulled several threads til he realized Rush admitted he did have a real problem. There's a lesson here for Admin Mod to STOP pulling threads whenever there's something unpleasant happening to someone we very much admire and look up to.

A funny story

I posted a thread on Rush's 2nd or 3rd day of this controversy and it was titled, "Rush starts show: "I not Saying Anything" and the Admin Moderator deletes it and sends it to the cornfield of general interest.

I bitched about it, and the Admin Mod tells me in Freep Mail, "You didn't list a source"

LOL! I about busted a gasket laughing....

Abuse button hit on you.

Well that was stupid thing to do. What was wrong with his opinion? Do you belong to the local Homeowners Association?

No dyslexia is not a crime- but if it was and a conservative had it, you'd be making excuses but if a Dem or lib had it you'd want them in jail.

Been a hypocrite long, or is this new?

1- No dyslexia is not a crime- but if it was and a conservative had it, you'd be making excuses

Huh?

2- but if a Dem or lib had it you'd want them in jail

That doesn't tell me anything I had surgeries too!

Okay, my sugeries were painful, required large doses of pain medication initially, and expensive physical rehab. It would have been easy to use that as an excuse to "extend" the use or narcotics to the point of physical dependence and addiction. I chose not to do that.

He sounds like Ed Asner!

Too think in the 70's I would stay up to two AM watching reruns of Mary Tyler Moore. I was fond of Ed what a real disapointment and trader to this nation!

I hope that's true. I know a lot of people in radio, and I can tell you it's also a pretty drug-friendly profession.

please go back to bashing greenspan, you are effective on that.

the reason why you didn't become addicted is because your body chemistry is different. some people feel lightheaded after taking an Advil, others do not. There is a medical science to addiction, not everyone who uses cocaine becomes an addict, but many do. In the case of legal prescription drugs, its easy for people with chronic pain to become "trapped" in a vicious cycle.

Prohibition was a reaction to a problem. It was not a good thing but before you go on a crusade to abolish all drug laws you ought to consider the motivation for the 18th Amendment.

It was an amendment to the Constitution, remember, --two-thirds both houses, three-quarters of the several states -- not just a simple law.

The prohibition movement that brough about the 18th amendment had one thing going for it that the drug warriors don't..respect for the Constitution. They knew that the only legal way to prohibit people from injesting something was through the amendment process. As you pointed out, it's no easy task, but they made their case to the Congress and the people and made it happen. It was a tribute to the character of the country a few years later when they were able to admit that they made a mistake and correct it.

If banning alcohol (a drug) required a constitutional amendment, then the other drugs should be no different. Our country has made a mistake with the drug war. Only now, the country no longer has the strength of character to admit that.

He had such terrible pain he had to buy illegal drugs- seems to have never hurt his golf game.

OR his "consumption of adult beverages", or cigar smoking. If you or I got caught buying pills on-the-sly, or confessed to doing so, you can just BET we'd be banged-up for 20 years or so SOOO fast it'd make our heads spin.

I wonder: will ABCDisneyESPNFamilyGoMiramax prove to have any hand in keeping him out of the lockup, or insuring a home-incarceration sentence for him so he can keep on entertaining his s*ittoheads (definition: those who believe as-gospel his every word and representation; right or wrong)?

so what did you want him to do, writhe in agony everyday so he wouldn't have to let you down? He is a person, just like everyone else. Even if he never returns to radio, we won't die.

Rush was Illegally on prescription drugs and buying them illegally , while condemning people who are or were on addicted to drugs.

I think Rush is a HYPOCRITE!, that's why I Prefer Hannity Radio show to his.

Let's review the bidding. Rush started out with conservative attitudes toward many things. He believes for example that you will do more for yourself economically than the government will do for you if you decide to become a certified victim.

He certainly was against recreational drug use, as his contemptuous reference to "maggot-infested dope smoking FM types" would exemplify.

Now comes a severe back problem, unsuccessful surgery, and a seductive "treatment" which turns out to give him an additional problem (or two, if in fact the drugs compromised his hearing). And it takes time for reality--addiction--to burn through the pride and natural denial mechanism that we all have. So suddenly he is faced with a fait accompli--he needs the medicine, which is no longer entirely distinguishable from the recreational user having lost control.

But to his great good fortune, he has "friends" who see nothing but their own hobby horse--and declaim that he is a hypocrite for not having avoided the problem in the first place, and also for not having screamed to the entire world that he was not worthy of them. Precisely when he had reached the pinnacle of his chosen profession, YOU, great moral crusader, are PROUD of your superiority over his inability to chuck the whole thing over, publicly go into detox for the remainder of eternity, and become a hermit.

Well, I must say that that is an impressive display of self-deception. You actually think you are not self-righteous. But then, self-righteousness is the last thing your own pride will let you see. And I should know.
