Bonilla to lose portion of Webb

Times Staff Reports

WASHINGTON D.C.- The redistricting battle is likely over and Congressman Henry Bonilla's 23rd district is seeing some changes.

"I've become very attached to the people of the 23rd district. We work well together and have supported one an other for the past eleven years," said Bonilla. "I fought hard to keep all my constituents, but when it came down to drawing the final lines, the state legislators made a few changes."

Unfortunately, the new redistricting map forces Bonilla to lose both Reagan and Upton counties. He will also lose portions of Sutton and Webb counties.

"I'm sad to lose some of the outstanding constituents I have served for more than a decade. But I look forward to my continued service in Sutton and Webb counties as their now senior Congressman. I also look forward to showing the counties' new junior congressmen the ropes."

According to the new map, the 23rd district will also gain three full counties. These counties include Bandera, Kendall and Kerr counties.

"I also understand that I've gained several new counties. I look forward to meeting my new constituents as soon as possible. I welcome them to the 23rd district - it's a great place to be!" said Mr. Bonilla. "The people of the 23rd district should expect great things. I look forward to being a part of their continued success."

Bonilla will keep his portion of Bexar County (San Antonio) and retain almost 800 miles of his border region, including portions of Laredo, Eagle Pass, Del Rio and parts of El Paso County.

Representative Henry Bonilla served the people of the 23rd district ever since his first election in 1992. The 23rd district is the largest in the state of Texas. It spans two time zones, three climates and covers almost 800 miles of the Texas/Mexico border.

The changes will make Bonilla more secure in his district, but I lose my Republican representation in the House!

YEA!!!! Bonilla is totally safe! I lived in Kendall County, the most Republican County in Texas. What did they do to Lamar Smith my former Congressman?
