October 10, 2003 -- FAIRFAX, Va. - Sniper suspect Lee Boyd Malvo's lawyers filed notice yesterday that they will mount an insanity defense at his murder trial next month.
A court-appointed psychiatrist has met with Malvo more than a dozen times in recent months and those conversations formed the basis for the decision, according to defense lawyers.

IMHO, no murderers are sane. What sane person would ever commit murder? This should not be a defense.

Why has the case against these two bogged down into the pedestrian realm of murder? I mean, the press coverage would lead you to think of these creeps as though they were panhandlers who crossed a line somewhere. These two, at the least, conspired together for terroristic purposes. Why does even the justice department approach seem sanitized of the Islamic terror angle? Any FReeper lawyers care to comment?

Folie à deux: A shared psychotic disorder between 2 people, usually people who are mutually dependent upon each other. This could be the defence.
