"There's a bill that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has introduced that I think is terrific. It gives temporary working permits to immigrants so they can come in and out of this country, out of this state, and also, you know, there's another idea. Undocumented immigrants who come here before August 2003 can apply for visas especially if they don't have a criminal background. And if they have a job right now, they can apply for that visa. So there are different programs I want to push in that direction to help undocumented immigrants."

The spineless Republican party should have backed McClintock and asked Ahnold to back out. They wanted the easy win. Hope the rest of us have won something with Ahnold. We'll see. If he makes good on the illegal license issue he will be on the right tract.Too bad he and us have to spend time fighting such on obvious wrong.

Ya'll can secede from the union any time now!
I promise we, in the still semi-free states, won't try to stop you!
I find it unreal that the only people expected to follow laws, in a country that claims it is based on the rule of law, are the people who legally live here.
If you are an illegal immigrant, no stinking gringo laws apply!
I must get one of those Mexican illegal alien consular cards!
Then I can live freely in my own country!
With the official permission of the Government of Mexico!

Oh please, we are talking about working visas. They are already living in America waiting every day to take illegal jobs. In 1987, Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million illegal Mexicans who, by the way, sponsored another 3 million of their relatives once they became citizens.
These illegals are already here, getting picked up and taken to work on farms and other low paying jobs. Why is amnesty a bad word anyway? After all, amnesty is a great source of labor, is good for the economy, the consumer, and the illegals would pay taxes.

And the "Baby Ruth in the Pool" wing of the Party (That's the "Conservatives CAN'T WIN; Popularity-Uber-Alles" crowd like Tempest et al...) STILL want you to swallow their Kool-Aide!
They swallowed it, they can CHOKE on it!

The only thing which surprises me is the speed at which this is all coming. I'm not. He has ALWAYS appeared Democratic to me. I will be surprised if he ends up being any more conservative than Gray-out!

Good post, Victoria.
What most people don't understand is that these illegal immigrants may be the only thing that keeps the U.S. out of a deflationary spiral along the lines of what Japan is going through right now and what Europe will be experiencing over the coming decades.

The Arnbots were told. We'll see if the expected tax hikes come, too. That would really prove his fiscal conservatism.

Any bets on what tomorrow might bring? Will we secede to Mexico by the end of the week?

There goes Arnold -- Trying to give amnesty to millions, with Tempst, Hildy, South40, Hillary's Lovely Legs and others serving as his political flaks.

Arnold ain't going to do manure on the drivers licenses for illegals issue.
BUT YOU CAN -- with McClintock's help.
Go to www.saveourlicense.com -- and ask Tom and the California Republican Assembly to send you petitions if you live in California.

So, if the problem everyone seems to have is with undocumented workers, what's wrong with going about documenting them?
The ones with criminal records get deported, the rest, like it says in his statement, can come in to work, and go home when they're done.
It was done before, called the Bracero program, and it worked fine. It wasn't until the law was changed, and the ability to come to the U.S., work, then go back home at the end of the day/week/month/season was eliminated, that most Mexicans realized that attempting to go home was too risky...so they stayed here.

I'm not necessarily against that.
But I am against in any way rewarding those who entered illegally.
If we need the labor, and they apply for a slot to come here in their homeland, fine.
But the illegals that are here should be deported post haste, IMO.
And they definitely should not be partaking of the taxpayer's largesse.
On a side note, let me say that the Hispanics I meet around the country are some of the most hardworking folks I've ever seen...and they generally are very good citizens.

So, if the problem everyone seems to have is with undocumented workers, what's wrong with going about documenting them? That's right. They already travel back and forth across the border. They do this all the time, so why not just given their visas?
