MEXICO CITY - Mexican federal lawmakers yesterday bemoaned Hollywood action star Arnold Schwarzenegger's election as California governor and issued a stern call to the novice politician to respect the rights of Mexican migrants in North America's largest state. "This is something about which Mexican migrants should be very concerned," said Rep. Carlos Jimenez, secretary of the foreign relations committee in Mexico's lower house of Congress.

It would make more sense for Mexico to respect the rights of Mexicans. Why do they think they're coming here???

Perhaps if the Mexican federal lawmakers spent less time trying to run the US and more time fixing Mexico, their people wouldn’t be so desperate to flee Mexico and illegally enter the USA.

They also need to improve their knowledge of geography. Both Alaska and Texas are larger than California as are almost all of the Canadian provinces.

Arnold should tell this wetback whiner to learn to differentiate between legal migrant workers and illegal aliens.

The first should be welcome, the latter should be shown the border... heading south. Any other way of handling the matter proves false the claim that we're a nation of Laws, not Men.

It should not be so that the citizens of America are required to live by her laws while illegal aliens are allowed (or encouraged with driver's licenses!) to ignore them.

"...what part of "illegal" don't they understand?"

Round them up - ship them home, Rawhide. I would support any politician with the 'nads that takes that stand. When they go for medical treatment, give them a bandaid & one-way ticket home. Traffic violation - give them a ride to the border. Anyone employing an illegal - goes with them.

It's really quite simple - America for Americans - get your illegal butts home!!!

Even ex-President Jimmy Carter joined the chorus of critics, remarking at a news conference during a visit to Mexico City on Tuesday that Californians would be better served if Gray Davis had stayed in office and Schwarzenegger stayed out of politics.

Jimmy..Jimmy..Jimmy illegal mexicans ain't Califorians. They're still mexicans.

Go dig a pea u nut.

''Even ex-President Jimmy Carter joined the chorus of critics. "Politics is being converted into a regretful circus of terrible clowns," Mexican columnist German Dehesa lamented.''

There. That reads much better.

The Mexicans who are here illegally need to go home!

True, but Arnold hasn't been completely encouraging on this, as in his quote "Deportation is not an option."

Again, what part of "illegal" don't they understand? Oh, yeah, it's Mexico - "illegal" is a way of life - and the main source of income for them.

Note the new rhetoric, though. Proponents no longer use any phrase that refers to the legal status of non-citizens in the U.S. "Illegal aliens" became "undocumented workers", but now they're all "immigrants", with no differentiation between legal and non-legal immigrants (or immigrants vs. visitors, either, for that matter). So now to answer them, you have to come out against "immigrants", and there are a lot of Americans who are the children or grandchildren of legal immigrants.

Hey, Mr. Jimenez! I'll be closely monitoring your threats against America and Americans. If you're so interested in the welfare of your citizens then try cleaning up that toilet of a country you represent, and clean up that cesspool of a corrupt government. How dare you try and dictate to us! You may not know it, but actions such as yours are quickly bringing to a boil the very strong resentment Americans have toward you and others of your ilk who seek to destroy America.

"For the Mexican community in California, which forms such an important part of the state, it could represent a sorry defeat."

Important to who?

"Hope Arnold simply sends a simple, direct reply."

How about this:
Any 'immigrants' caught trying to enter this country, not at a regular border crossing, should have their photos and fingerprints taken, and this documentation given back to them before their release, in the form of a plastic I.D. card. The release should then be back into Mexico.
They could then be told to use this identification the next time they enter, through the regular border crossing ONLY.

They can also be instructed to present this basic I.D. when applying for a job or driver's license within California, or any other state.

Eventually, a majority of Mexicans will realize the only practical way into this country is through the FRONT door, not across the river or the desert.

This tide of refugees cannot be stopped, but at least it should be properly directed in a humane manner, that brings all immigrants to the same level of basic documentation as the rest of us legal residents have to bear.

Way to go, ambassador. Anything to sell a few bushels of peanuts. Worked well with the Dixie chix.

The very discriminatory message that he has delivered at certain times against Mexican migrants

Did Schwarzenegger actually say Mexican migrants? I heard him say "illeagal immigrants". It's funny (NOT) how the supporters of the illegal immigrants see them as the victims of California law and not the perpetrators.

Americans would be best served...if Jimmy just built houses and stayed out of politics.

Maybe those "Mexican migrants" should migrate their butts back to Mexico, if they don't like it!

"...will be denounced in the Mexican Congress."

Who cares what the Mexican Congress thinks. Contrary to their popular belief, they are not part of the U.S.!

I think Arnold's first order of business should be to tell the mexican government to SCR*W OFF !
