The newly-legalized will become obsolete because they will command higher wages. The next wave of illegals will get the jobs because they will work for less. The newly-legalized will then feed off the government trough for sustenance.

That's exactly what happened with the last amnesty. Not only did those living here get in on it but millions came over the border who had never before stepped foot in the USA just to get in on the amnesty. Once legalized, they no longer can work for less than minimum wage, they qualify for many more welfare programs plus can bring in all kinds of impoverished family members. They find welfare works better for them than hard work for low wages and their employers have to look for a new bunch to do that kind of job.

I know some hard core Republicans that voted for Debbie Stabusall even over that issue. (I didn't vote for Stab..she was my congresscritter and I knew her all too well)

I believe the thinking here is they apply for a normal status and start paying taxes, so if legally more come and do that, then we have legal immigration and more taxes paid if they do work.

I think only a third at most will even attempt to legalize their status and the rest will continue to work, pay no taxes and send it home to mostly Mexico.

In other words, this is a good faith effort that is more window dressing than anything else and Arnold will ahve to take the issue again to the Feds to uphold the current laws.

You're kidding yourself. So is Arnold. McCain's stage one Amnesty is in the worst of faith.

To legalize Illegals is to encourage more Illegals to come into the country.

Look again at the results of the Luntz poll on Illegals that I posted at #4.

You want to lose elections? Stand in the way of what's coming from an electorate that is furious about the do-nothing approach to Illegal Aliens by both political parties.

I think they will mostly not attempt to be legal, they don't want to pay taxes.

I think this will end up a border and arresting the illegals issue at some point anyway.

The Dims trot out Clintoon in every campaign and the more they appear with him the worse they do. Slick has the Midas touch when it comes to getting donations (legal and questionable) from the hard core left, who see him as a demi-god. Among regular folks (where the votes count) Clintoon is pure poison. It's a recipe for the destruction on the Dim party. They're addicted to his fundraising and stirring up the left, but that comes at the price of the general election. The dims have made a deal with the devil in their devotion to Bill & Hill, and until they break free of the Clintons they'll keep sinking.
