Arnold accomplished what a lot of smart people haven't. He produced a position on immigration that moved us away from a stupid, all or nothing mentality. Yes, America, the border can be effectively managed without depriving anyone of anything. We don't have to give anyone from anywhere a CA driver's license just for showing up.

Arnold might have even clinched it on just this issue. Republicans should challange the stupid, irrational 'freedom riders' as the lawbreakers that they are. The border can be managed both effectively and humanely.

Arnold accomplished what a lot of smart people haven't. He produced a position on immigration that moved us away from a stupid, all or nothing mentality.

Not even close to the truth.

Arnold's real position on Illegals, which was stealthily available during the campaign, was unveiled during his press conference yesterday...

"There's a bill that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has introduced that I think is terrific. It gives temporary working permits to immigrants so they can come in and out of this country, out of this state, and also, you know, there's another idea. Undocumented immigrants who come here before August 2003 can apply for visas especially if they don't have a criminal background. And if they have a job right now, they can apply for that visa. So there are different programs I want to push in that direction to help undocumented immigrants."
LINK

Who does Arnold think he's supposed to represent, citizens or Illegals?

His issue with the Ilegal Alien drivers' licenses is the lack of background checks, not that they are Illegals who don't belong here. He wants them to be redesignated as "guest workers." Now you understand his reluctance to support the Save Our License referendum.

Arnold supports Amnesty for Illegals, while claiming that he doesn't. He's thrown in with the McCain-Hatch-Cornyn wing of the GOP.

Get ready for a real intra-party civil war as the appeasers try to sneak their Amnesty by other names trhough the Congress.

They are all woefully out of touch with the electorate...

The Luntz Poll (http://capwiz.com/fair/utr/1/NASACDSZKP/MEGUCDSZLJ/ commissioned by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), showed strong disfavor - 68 percent to 21 percent - for granting licenses to illegal aliens, and that disapproval was on the minds of many voters as they went to the polls.

By a large majority, voters who participated in the recall election said they would support a proposed referendum on next March's ballot to block implementation of the law granting driver's licenses to illegal aliens. Sixty-two percent indicated that were such a referendum to appear on the ballot it would win their vote, while only 25 percent said they would oppose it.

< -snip- >

Davis' decision to sign the driver's license bill, after twice vetoing similar measures, was not the only flip-flop on matters relating to illegal immigration that hurt him with voters. After initially opposing in-state tuition for illegal aliens at state-run universities, Davis ultimately signed legislation allowing illegal aliens to qualify for subsidized tuition rates. That decision was opposed by 73 percent of the people who voted in Tuesday's recall, while only 18 percent said they favored the idea.

During the course of the campaign, the media repeatedly asserted that Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger's support for the 1994 voter initiative, known as Proposition 187, was a political liability for the candidate. The Luntz survey indicates otherwise. By a 65 percent to 26 percent margin, voters said that illegal aliens "should not be eligible for services and benefits provided by state and local governments, except for emergency services." Prop. 187, which included almost identical language, received 59 percent of the vote nine years ago.

Who does Arnold think he's supposed to represent, citizens or Illegals?

With David Dreier advising him, you know the answer all too well.

The issue is getting those who come here to get visas, job permits so they can go by the law, pay taxes or get out.

It is the right move.

What do you object to?

REPOST: I believe three events, soft-pedalled by the media, had a huge impact on Davis and the Dumbocrats and helped Arnold immeasurably:

(A) Clinton's presence, campaigning at Davis' side (he also made radio ads for Davis), was a dud. Remember that Davis went on national TV and cravenly pled for BillyBoy's presence. We must spread the word that Clinton actually helped Cali boot Davis out of office;

(B) Davis' craven hyphenate pandering by signing the illegal aliens auto licensing law backfired on him bigtime, as did the triple increase in auto registration costs;

(C) Cruz Bustamente's hyphenate pander by accepting millions from Indian casinos was also a major misfire.

Since Cali is usually about five years ahead of the Nation, if the Dumbos playing the diversity card in multi-cultural hyphenated Cali is backfiring, there is hope elsewhere. We have got to take the hyphens out of American politics and live as one, united Nation as the Founders intended. We must support Tom Tancredo's call for an end to hyphenated caucuses in the Congress.

I wonder if graydavis dashed off that note to Bill Clinton yet in which he thanks BillyBoy for coming to Cali to campaign for him. Bill was so faithful appearing at Gray's side for a lot of photo-ops. Billy even made radio ads for Gray. " Dear Bill," Davis might write, "You were a big help. Thanks for nothing. " Gray.

In 2002 Bill (and Hil's) campaigning had a hugely negative effect on candidates and caused unimaginable losses for the Dims including the Senate majority. Yet they still drag out this has-been to campaign. Will they never learn? Clinton's little more than a one-trick pony who's way past his prime. Put him out to pasture. Now.

What do you object to?

Simple, get your work permit and your visa before you come. Millions of people have done it, why can't they?

Huh?

We can talk about illegal immigration again?

Sure can't tell from the title.

Arnold is another notch in George Bush's belt. It doesn't really matter what Americans want anymore. Amnesty of any kind will bring on the next 10 million stomping over the border.

Exactly. The newly-legalized will become obsolete because they will command higher wages. The next wave of illegals will get the jobs because they will work for less. The newly-legalized will then feed off the government trough for sustenance.

From the SF Chronicle: Is there any question that the people's recall has been HIJACKED by new world order RINO's?

Somebody should take Dreier on in the primary over this issue. I am convinced if his constituents knew what a complete sell-out he is they'd dump his pink butt so fast it would make his blow-dried hair move. We need to defeat a couple politicians on the illegal immigration issue. Congressmen love being congressmen, if they thought the voters would throw them out over this issue they might straighten up and fly right.

Yup. The RNC apparently didn't get the message when Spence Abraham lost his Senate seat over this issue.

"It gives temporary working permits..., and also, you know, there's another idea"

Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but AS's phrase 'you know' is eerily similiar to hitlery's usual tip off that she's lying or pulling one over on the sheeple again.

I AGREE, and I think Arnold is going that way but giving those here a chance to apply legally before being kicked out on their arse.

It is the right move.

What do you object to?

I object to rewarding criminality.

The issue isn't as you say, it's for foreigners to get their visas and job permist before they get here.

What you and Scwharzenegger are advocating is akin to renting a room to a burglar after he's already moved in.
