LOS ANGELES — California Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday pledged to cut the car tax, not raise any other taxes and work to help "undocumented immigrants" gain legal status.
"I said it before that I will not raise taxes, and I will not raise taxes," Mr. Schwarzenegger said in his first press conference since he began his victorious campaign for governor.

Perhaps I've missed something, but, afaict, there is absolutely NOTHING to prevent the state of Calbania from erecting toll gates on roads leading to Indian (don't give me NATIVE AMERICAN -- **I'M** a native American, and I'm not an Injun) casinos. Say, $10.00 a pop, per transit, until the Injuns decide to become citizens.
What a racket the Injuns have; citizens when convenient, ''sovereign nations'' when not. Piss on 'em.
Anyone wanting to have it both ways, as regards gov't or ANYthing else, can go merrily to h*ll, in my book. And the really hilarious part is that there are whole ''tribes'', no member of which HAS, by family relation, more than perhaps 1/8 or 1/16th ancestry in said tribe -- but, nonetheless, said alleged humans want exemption from U.S. taxes and, in general, all the responsibilities of any other citizen.
Drop dead, you frauds.

Currently, a large portion of the revenue to the County's General Fund is Vehicle License Fees. Originaly, the VLF was all County revenue as a personal property tax. Then the State reduced the VLF to the owner and backfilled the County for the lost revenue out of the budget surplus. The general fund is what pays for police and fire services, as well as basic County departmental functions - the Assessor, Auditor, Administrator, Clerk, etc.
Our most recent County budget crisis came from the State deciding not to fully backfill the VLF on time this year. That cost us a 12% cut in General Fund departments. If the State recinds the VLF increase and cannot backfill the County for the lost revenue, we could be facing another cut of 25% or more to our General Fund. Not many counties will survive that.

Yeah I find it rather funny how the gaming tribes like to claim themselves as a soveriegn nation yet like to involve themselves in the politics of their neighboring nations.
They've spent over a 120 million dollars on swaying the politics of California while building up casinos that burden neighboring cities and counties while not wanting to pay any of the expenses to compensate for those burdens.

Arnold witnessed what happened to Bob Riley in Alabama. If you want to govern as a RINO, then expect a inevitable hemorrhage to eventual political death. Arnold is not stupid and knows if he wants to be reelected for a second term, he must not alienate the party's base. And in any event, Pete Wilson's tax hike nostrum not only did not work and ended up devastating the economy, it didn't fix the boom and bust budget cycle that led California to the abyss. Arnold has to come up with a solution that ensures government lives within its means and spends only the money it has on hand and also sets aside additional money in the form of a rainy day fund for a future economic winter. If he can do that, it will be his most lasting legacy to the people of California and generations to follow.
