Greater Nevada Credit Union to ban CCW & Open Carry firearms, but only for "civilians"!

Greater Nevada Credit Union today made it clear that the liberals are making an effort to gain "PC" control of some Nevada financial institutions.
I have been a member for several years, and have carried concealed, and occasionally openly, all that time.
Of late I have noticed a dramatic increase in the number of "Undesirable" type "persons" (to use the most polite phrase possible) frequenting our small town, too many of whom seem to have nothing to do all day but hang around shopping centers and financial institutions.
Burglary, Robbery, Vandalism, and bust for hard drugs are all on the rise.
As a result I have decided to "carry" at all times, and particularly when visiting my Credit Union to make deposits or withdrawals.
Today one of the employee's there DEMANDED that I not carry openly, OR CONCEALED!
They made NO effort to be reasonable, and "Please" is apparently not in their vocabulary.
They tried to tell me I was breaking the law, which I know to be untrue. The Nevada state constitution confirms our right to "Keep and Bear" arms "For all lawful purposes".
I tried to inform them of the truth of exactly what the law does say, but they cut me off with threats to call the police. I told them to go ahead, and left.
As I knew I had done nothing wrong and in fact they were trying to illicitly deny me my rights to carry, without following the legal requirements (sign posted at every entrance) required for them to do so.
I take my RKBA very seriously, I would not be alive today if I had not had a firearm available to me several years ago when six "Crips" came to rob my business.
This branch of the GNCU is located directly next door to my Gun Shop, I always carry openly while open for business, in order to discourage mischief or criminal intent.
Having to remove my gun every time I approach the Credit Union is a nuisance I do not need, and I have no desire to see them get away with leading a "PC" assault on our RKBA in Nevada.
The last session of our state legislature saw several anti-RKBA bills introduced that required quick action on the part of gun rights defenders to kill.
I fear that if this "Credit Union" (why is it that anything with "Union" in it's name turns sour?) carries on with this policy shift it may signal to other business's and institutions that it is now "open season" on our Nevada RKBA.
The cops did eventually show up at my business (slowest response I have ever seen, more reason to carry!), attempting to intimidate me into complying with GNCU's unlawful demand. I demanded they give me the statute under which the demand was being made, knowing it does not exist. I pointed out to them that there is no law allowing them to have rights (carry while conducting personal business) not available to the general citizenry. They claimed they are exempt, I again asked for the relevant statute. They never cited ANY statutes, simply saying "we're not here to argue". They then informed me that the Credit Union will post notices prohibiting all weapons tomorrow, and left.
I would bet that the notice will not be posted in accordance with the law, but only a small one at the front door.
I also know that the Credit Union has no idea how many people, or who, including county commissioners, members of the state assembly and senate, realtors, etc. do carry on their premises.
I know that business's like Blockbuster Video, Denny's, etc. have found out that disallowing CCW hurt their sales. I need links to articles on that if anyone has them.
I would also like to present a well written legal notice informing GNCU that since they intend to deprive me of my RKBA they must take full responsibility for my safety any time I am on their property and under their prohibition.
The second Amendment IS a RIGHT, not a privilege to be suspended at will by "PC" liberals .
Here is their contact info for anyone wishing to let them know how they feel about this issue. Greater Nevada Credit Union 882-2060 or 1-(800)421-6674 http://www.gncu.org Greater Nevada Credit Union has eight branches in Northern Nevada, centered around the Reno area.

I'm a fellow nevadan. I am with you - I have no idea why people are skittish about guns. If it was up to me, everyone would have a sidearm on their hip - men and women just the same.
An armed society is a polite society.

Missouri just overrid a veto of Gov Holden to pass CCW.
Already, our city council in my small town has banned CCW in all city offices and courts. And our mayor has been actively campaigning to businesses to post signs saying "no guns allowed on these premises".
And his reason for doing so is that "it just makes sense".
Goodbye Mayor and city councilmen who voted for this, methinks.

I suppose you can put up a sign "No politicans allowed".
I wonder, would you like to put up a sign "No uniformed police allowed"? How about "no state tax collectors allowed"
"No credit union employees allowed"
perhaps "no credit union security personnel allowed"
I figure you can out sign them 4 or 5 to one. Time to find a different place to bank. Better yet, open your own bank, and put an ATM in your gun store.
"No entry to bank without self defence device."

Since all CCW persons have gone through all the state's hoops of requirements to be allowed to carry....how can a municiple city council flaunt states law?
I am not talking of private business here, but public places. Could they not say that all parks and sidewalks owned by the city were off limits, also?
I am damn mad.

If a business asks any person to leave for any reason, and the person refuses to leave, does such refusal not constitute trespass?

Thanks. . .interesting and disconcerting post.
Think those 'skitish' people are those whose sensibilities have been battered by Political Correctness; which is designed to render any discriminating intelligence,'null and void'.
It what PC is about. . .subtle form of 'stepford' mind control; and the non-thinking/non-judgemental stimulus/response is the MO of PC's code/buzz words.
. . .gun/bad; person with gun/bad; hunter/bad; gun/bad people; all people with gun/bad; Second Amendment Right/w r o n g. . .
'PC' people are caring, compassionate;anti-gun. Non-PC people are hateful and racist. . .use/carry guns and scare good people.
And so it goes; and so will we all, if the Libs win.

And this is in Northern Nevada, in one of the most "Republican" counties in the state.
(Richard, I suggest contacting the editor of the Sierra Sage. Freepmail me for contact info.)

Did leave.
In actuality they never "asked" anything, simply stopped the teller from completeing my transaction and loudly demanded that I never enter armed in any way.
They had NO interest in a rational discussion.
I have little tolerance for self appointed PC dictators , particularly loud RUDE ones!

How about putting up a sign saying "No business will be conducted with persons having NO CCW license."

The Texas legislature recently passed a law that forbids public buildings, parks, etc from refusing entry to C&C holders. Private businesses can display no guns signs, but they have no legal bearing. It's left to the person to decide whether or not they want to do business with people who display these signs.
As for myself, I don't give up my Second Amendment Rights to do business with anyone!

I just called them. After some delay while they checked, the manager (of the phone center?) said that they have no written policy on this. They don't "prohibit" carry, but they merely discourage it, because they don't want a customer to be put "in a compromising position", since if a teller spots your gun, they may call 911.
I don't see the logic in that (or even any coherence at all) so I suspect you have a local martinet who is exceeding her authority. I'd go to top management, in writing, to resolve the matter.

I am going to put my request in writing, so as to document exactly what is going on.
As of noon today the prohibition on carry is still not posted as threatened yesterday.
I figure that if they get a few calls at the main office it may never be put up.
You are right, the "answer" you got makes no sense.
Thanks for making the call, in my experiance it only takes a few such contacts to shut down this sort of stupidity.
One of the advantages of living in state with a small population!

Send your inquiry by certified mail, return receipt requested. I've found that reduces the probability of correspondence being ignored and/or discarded. It makes the addressee wonder just what you're planning to do with that proof of delivery.

Private businesses can display no guns signs, but they have no legal bearing. Uh, not exactly true, Basil. Any TX private business can display the "30-06" sign (That's the TX legal code# )and legally prohibit carrying concealed weapons. There's also the 51% rule which has to do with the purchase & consumption of alcohol on site as a % of sales at a business. Some previously offlimits areas (like hospitals) now must post a formal 30-06 sign to prohibit CCW, but they still CAN prohibit it.

A sign place next door to one of my clients got a request for a custom sign----Yellow w/ black letters:
It was 3' x 3', and basically said the following:
No City, County, State, or Federal Employees allowed unless accompanied by a WARRANT and a Sheriff.
He lived in Nevada and ordered 4 or 6 of them. I loved it.
