From the looks of it this bear must have thought this guys leg was made of pure honey!

Saw this cartoon in the local paper when I was in Alaska...

Two bears standing on the front porch of a house. Through the picture window you see a guy sitting on the couch, watching TV. One bear turns to the other and says, "Wait to you see this! Just hit that button (door bell) and a snack pops out!"

Sounds like The Far Side, Gary Larson seemed to really enjoy using bears in his strip. I remember one with two polar bears... one was looking on as the other leaned against a shattered igloo, smacking his lips. "Ooh, I just LOVE these things! Crunchy on the outside, with a chewy center!"

Man's best weapon is the 3.5 lbs of gray matter that separates us from all the rest of the animal kingdom... our bear expert failed to properly use his, as did the gnawed on bloke... however, the hunter in the bottom picture thankfully, used his good wits and is around to tell about it...

I live up here in bear country too.
I decided to get a bigger bear gun when it took three (well placed) shots from a .338 to kill a 600 pounder that got into my garage a couple of years ago.

I don't know if I posted this on this thread or not, but when you carefully examine the photo, you realize that at least the bear had enough class not to steal the guys tennis shoes. A low life human would have taken the shoes.

There is another one out where the bears are looking at two picnicers and discussing the fact that God gave them big claws and big teeth to use on more than just eating honey.

This reminds me more of that Far Side cartoon where the man and wife explorers are in a canoe being chomped down by a huge alligator and the wife is yelling "Rub his belly, Ernie. Rub his belly!"

Ooooh, takedown lever-actions! Thanks for the link... I've had a hankering for one of those for a while. I suppose alligators qualify as "dangerous critters that take a lot o' killing", so I might yet justify the purchase. Then there's the obvious home-defense value (one can only imagine what a .50 Alaskan loaded with a Glaser Safety Slug would do to a home invader).

Is yours Marlin-based, or another brand of beefy lever-gun? I've seen a Winchester 71 rebarrelled in .50 Alaskan.

Yep I used to be on a hunting forum and some guy kept us all informed about the situation there. Irritating. We have bears in the Minneapolis suburbs now, and wolves too. Once or twice there have been cougars too.
