ProLifers Celebrate Recall Statement of Brian Johnston, Executive Director of the California ProLife Council
Tom McClintcok put it well, "this is a great day for California." Gray Davis was the most ardently pro-abortion elected official to ever hold public office in the United States. The abortion lobby said so, and the facts bear that out. Even the egregiously radical Bill Clinton felt the need to mute his pro-abortion stance by calling for abortion to be 'safe, legal, and rare.' But Davis embraced all abortions at all times, going so far as to threaten the legislature to not even introduce a bill that would give any consideration to the legal rights of the child in the womb.
A sympathetic media covered-up some of the more outrageous aspects of Davis' pro-abortion administration. One of the most glaring examples being that Davis' key lieutenant, the individual credited with running his administration, was Susan Kennedy, his Cabinet Secretary. Because of media approbation of the administration, few people realized that prior to her appointment, Susan Kennedy was one of the principal players in the abortion lobby. She was the Director of the California Abortion Rights Action League (CARAL). Imagine if the director of the California ProLife Council had been appointed to a similar position in a Lungren or Simon administration; the media would have been unrelenting in their criticism. Would the ideology of that administration have been discussed?
Arnold Schwarznegger has self-identified as 'pro-choice.' But in supporting parental notification and opposing partial-birth abortions, he has taken a significant break from the monolithic abortion lobby. This has made him public enemy #1 at NOW and NARAL and CARAL. There are quite a few pro-life legislators that have rallied to Arnie's side. They are in a position to advise and influence him. He has said he wants that advice. He has appointed pro-lifers to his transition team. Perhaps most significantly, unlike the unpleasant tenor of the Wilson years, Arnie has said he doesn't want to create the internal Republican wars over abortion. He does not want to make war on the party platform. These are significant distinctions. Arnie's victory is a victory for those who want to move us away from the pro-abortion mentality ardently pursued during the previous six years.
One more observation: Several years ago a local Catholic priest, Msgr. Edward Kavanaugh, a sterling man and a pro-life leader, rebuked Davis for his unstinting pro-abortion position. Governor Davis made a point of not only dismissing the comments but then went out of his way to publicly embarrass and humiliate Msgr. Kavanaugh on a number of occasions. Last night the world watched Gray Davis being summarily removed from office. At that same moment Msgr. Kavanaugh was being publicly honored for his tireless work on behalf of defenseless orphans. Arco Arena exploded in cheers while at center court the Maloof brothers presented him with a check for $100,000. Pro-Lifers have thanked him many times, but it is nice to see him get rewarded in a more substantial manner.
And it's nice to see his pro-abortion nemesis get his reward. It was a great day for California.

Is not a "pro-choice Catholic" by definition a heretic?
Kalifornia is just too weird for words even without Arnold.
National Socialism is what Nazi stands for and by definition it is the Government controlling private business. I think we don't have to look too hard to see that that is what has happened to our country. We have socialism working hand in hand with capitalism. And that was the Nazi plan. I don't think that Arnold even knows what is going on. Certainly he's not a Nazi. But he doesn't have to be. The system is already there.
The Eugenics movement in the USA preceeded Hitler's rise and admired his progress. With the likes of Oliver Wendell Holmes(Supreme Court) and Margaret Sanger(Planned parenthood) claiming that the Germans were ahead of us.
Abortion is murder of an innocent human being. Life begins at conception. That is a medical fact, not a religious opinion.

Well, I'm sorry but I was responding to the article and that's the only way I know to do that.

...as it stands now we have a Catholic heretic in the Governor's Mansion in Kalifornia. You are referring to Davis, aren't you. Didn't the Sacramento Bishop excommunicate him?

Arnold Schwarznegger has self-identified as 'pro-choice.' But in supporting parental notification and opposing partial-birth abortionsAs long as he is to the right of the current climate in CA abortion politics, that's great. I hope he can make changes in the public funding of abortions and preventive education.
Although McClintock said he was pro-life, he really only emphasized that he opposed partial-birth abortion. I suspect that it was because either that is the only type of abortion that could be made legal/illegal in the short term future or because he believes in incremental change, besides the fact that he concentrated on fiscal/economic issues. Also, the abortion lobby would probably go after him if he said anything else.
In words that I heard or news articles I saw on FR during the campaign, McClintock and Schwarzenegger did not say much different about specific aspects of abortion other than the general terms life/choice. Both of them are raising children, too, unlike Davis who never had or adopted any children.

Indeed, the partial birth abortion is one thing that many share opposition to, and I must admit, it was really nice to read this article.
It is in steep contrast to the pro-life protesters who showed up to Arnold's rally in San Bernardino, displaying billboards of partial birth abortion, and the images of corpses, yelling at attendees that this was what we were voting for.
The people in line knew Arnold's stated stance, yet telling the protesters was useless. I heard comments, and have to agree, those protesters were no better than Iraq when it showed the corpses of our soldiers. No one should use the dead for political gain.

Schwarzenegger drew supporters from all political persuasions, including moderate-liberal voters who are pro-choice. Many of them may never have thought about what happens during the gruesome process called partial-birth abortion. Most people accustomed to the liberal media's treatment of abortion -- that "choice" is good and that abortion is just another normal medical procedure.
If those graphic images changed the minds of any voters to oppose PBA, then the effort wasn't useless.

Aside from his oppositin to PBA, Arnold still supports 99.98% of all abortions carried out annually in the US. This isn't even an incremental victory.

Arnold Schwarznegger has self-identified as 'pro-choice.' CP, you are normally so solidly pro-life that I am stunned and disappointed that you would post such spin. I am generally not a purist on my political support but I do insist that they be on the right side. Do you really believe that someone who admits to not just to being "pro-choice" but specifically "pro-abortion" will put forth any effort to save the lives of the unborn? Arnold may be a republican, but what do you expect his administration to do to further the cause of life? The main effect of his election on the issue was to set a precedent of how many RINO voters will support RINO politicians with complete disregard for the national party's pro-life plank.
To: Diddle E. Squat
Looks like others are seeing that incremental victories can and do save some lives, and move us closer to saving far more. That's certainly the way I saw it.
Let's start pressing Arnold for stronger "informed consent" laws here in Cali. IMHO, that's the next step toward changing hearts and minds about abortion.

The only minds I heard changed were those who were going to stop donating to the pro-life movement because they were offended. A six feet tall, four feet wide photo of a corpse is something that third world nations use for political gain, not decent people. Four thousand people, and not one that I saw cheered or applauded the parade up and down the waiting line.

RM,
Please see my thread
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/926770/posts regarding the Terminator.
I pinged my list as always, I don't know if you were on it yet.
Post 1: "Conan the Destroyer" is as far left as Gray-Out Davis. He gives the GOP a bad name, IMHO
Attention cute little helpless babies-you have been targeted for termination.
Post 5: Schwarzenegger, who was born and raised Catholic and claims to be a Republican is no improvement over the current California gov.
Hasta la vista, Unborn Babies
California should demand better than this.
Post 10:
Give California someone who not only defends the 2nd amendment but someone who defends the unborn citizen the right to Life Liberty and ability to grow-up and bear arms!
What about his pro-gay stance?
We don't need no stinking "very liberal" on social issues California GOP. Why even bother with elections.
Post 14
"Liberal Catholics are the worst enemies of the Church."
Blessed Pope Pius IX
And I will add the worst enemies of our Republic, also.
RM, You will not find one line that I have ever posted written spoken or thought - different than the above.
I posted the story without comment because I wanted other freepers comments.
I ping the pro-life list at least 10 time a week. My screen name is my website, please visit it. The only thing I freep is on pro-life and I probably have pushed it harder than most.
Of special interest to you might be

I am on your pro-life ping list and enjoy your posts. My point is that by posting an article like this without a puke alert or negative comment, you are disseminating a destructive message. This article is pure deception and posting it without a disclaimer could easily lead others astray. It is dangerous to post a message you disagree with without a warning in these confusing times.
