Riordan:"Arnold needs to raise taxes, tax internet sales"
FOX Newschannel | 10/8/2003 | Dick Riordan

Sorry for the vanity.

Dick Riordan was just interviewed live on Fox Newschannel and told Fox reporter Brian Wilson that Arnold needs to add new taxes to help balance the budget in California. He said Arnold also needs to tax internet sales.

Without tax increases, the only way to balance the budget (in the short-term) is to drastically cut spending. If Arnold proposes this, and I hope he does, the special-interest groups will go NUTS. If he lowers taxes, I believe that businesses will return to California, which will generate income over the long-term, but not immediately.

An ever bigger test comes next year. Can Californians throw some of the bums in the legislature out and replace them with Republicans? And can Arnold deliver the state for President Bush?

Do that, and everyone will be convinced.

I was thinking that when Riordan was talking about Arnold! That was one of the funniest things I witnessed during the Recall -- Feinstein got faked out by Arnold! I am sitting here laughing about that day with Feinstein saying she wasn't running and then Arnold appears on Leno! Made my day!

Man, if only we nominated him last cycle instead of Simon we could have had a Republican Governor.

His response was that we don't need more laws, we need to enforce the ones we have.

Enforcing the ones we have is a blatent disregard of the Constitution too.

I don't see how Schwarzenegger can lower taxes (other than the car tax) in the near term. In fact, he's going to have to work to raise the tax on Indian casinos.

Lowering taxes is a great stimulant to the economy, but he's going to have to cut spending in a big way just to balance the state budget with current revenues.

The California budget was "balanced" this year, only because it borrowed huge sums of money. That strategy can't be repeated indefinitely.

Go rent Pumping Iron. You will see how Arnold messes with his opponents.

I heard that on Fox too. Riordon is an Arnold insider and has access to the new governor's "secret" plan for California. Riordon said, "I should have kept my mouth shut", refering to his remarks about raising taxes and establishing internet taxes.

McClintock supporters already knew the chances were good, that Arnie would raise taxes once in office. He has no intention of cutting education spending or reducing sociala welfare spending, so the only alternative left is for Arnie to eventually raise taxes.

Not to sure that those who voted for Arnold are entirely Republicans. Clearly there were a good number if Indy's as well as some cross over dems.

Am curious as to how the abortion issue affected those voters. If there's one thing that sickens and angers me to this day is when the NJ gov race was going on, a TV crew was doing a feature asking everyday folks on the street what they thought of NJ govt and who they would vote for. One idiot woman went on and on about how badly govt was run, how high taxes were and how she was a GOP. When asked who she was voting for she responded with a smile "Not Schundler but McScummy because he'll protect abortion." Think about that. The moron KNEW and had articulated what was wrong with the Rat party. But all that was superceded by idiocy. Yeah babe the NJ gov if in the wrong hands can outlaw abortion. Sheesh

Oh please! I noticed that the pro-Schwarzenkennedy supporters are pretending that Riordan suddenly doesn't exist now. Give me a break - Riordan will not only be a part of RINOLD's administration, he'll be a hands-on advisor.

RINOLD's victory is truly hollow. CA will sink lower into the depths of the Pacific as more businesses and middle-class folks leave in droves.

To be quite frank, it didn't even come up in my circles. Understand, the people were/are pissed about high taxes, out of control state spending, and this insane immigration disaster. These were the big issues on most people's mind.

The video is of Arnold and Lou Ferrigno preparing for the Mr. Olympia contest in 197?.

There is a lot of behind the scenes looks at Arnold, not simply his lifting and posing.

It is very intertaining.

Now that you mention it, I think I will go rent it again.

Puke Riordan claimed last night that this was a victory for "moderate" Republican and listed all the leftist things Arnie supports.

Thanks for reminding us why you did not win last go-around, Riordan. You are unnecessarily divisive. You did not have the appeal or name recognition of the celebrity that is Arnold. You are mean-spirited while Arnold is positive. You did not know how to appeal to most Republicans nor cared to. Time after time you put your foot in your mouth and come off as bitter and senile.

It was the economy STUPID. Arnold downplayed his social liberalism and Rush Limbaugh agrees with that assessment.

But I'm sure you'll try to justify it to further try to push the Republican Party into becoming Democrat Party Lite.

Dick Riordan never misses an opportunity to advance the Left agenda. We CA Republican's were supposedly fools for not making him the winning "moderate" GOP candidate, but he is worse than Davis. I believe his brain is addled. Go away Riordan!

Even Ray Charles can see that Cal just made a right turn. What's wrong with you?

LOL!

Compared to the little communist Gray Davis and his leftist supporters, Schwarzenegger is a member of the vast right wing conspiracy. The numbers tell the story, and Davis is hanging by a political rope.....
