Washington is so busy giving away our Freedom to undeserving prople, it's enough to make one puke! Undeserving? Yeah, he's here illegally. However, he joined up to defend THIS country. He's put himself in harm's way for THIS country. That's more than 75 percent of your fellow Freepers have ever done. Who deserves THIS country's freedom more? The fellow who's willing to die to secure it, or the folks who sit around and gripe and grow fat knowing there are people like this "undeserving" person willing to die to secure that freedom.
"Undeserving," my ass.

Junior, this is poor criteria for citizenship. How the hell do you do a background check on someone like this?
I'd hate to be in a foxhole with this person.
Check the recent problems with Muslim converts at Gittmo!
I'd rather not take the chance.
Our citizenship is being sold/given away too cheaply.

He evidently wasn't in a classified position, so no background check was necessary.
I'd gladly share a foxhole with someone who was willing to be there -- or, since I'm a sailor, I'd gladly serve on a damage control party with someone who wants to be there -- he's likely to do a much better job than someone, say you, who wishes he were at home watching football.
The Moslems at GITMO were American citizens. Go figure...
Since you aren't serving with him, you won't have to take a chance. I'd gladly serve alongside this guy.
How is putting one's life on the line cheaper than being born to it? You are a citizen by dint of birth; you didn't have to do squat to get that privilege. This guy is willing to go through Hell to earn that citizenship -- and somehow that's "cheaper" in your eyes. Uh-huh.

This guy broke the law. Is it your contention that serving in the military absolves one of their crimes?

He's been in the country since he was four. Do you remember much from when you were four? His parents broke the law by coming into this country illegally. He had no choice in the matter. Now, you want to ship him from the only country he's ever known -- and one for which he proudly lay down his life -- to a country he's never known. That's real justice.

I think what is so ironic is that the Republicans are bending over backwards to grovel to the illegals and the illegals will probably vote 95% for the Democrats.

Do the words "$50 bogus green card to enlist" "Fraud" "Illegal" and "against the law/ against UCMJ" mean anything to you?

Sometimes justice sucks. He is an illegal alien. He knew it obviously, and did nothing to rectify the situation before willfully committing fraud to join the military. Why should the law apply to US citizens and not an illegal alien.

Buying a $50 bogus green card and showing it to the recruiter happened BEFORE he was under the UCMJ; so you can't get him there.
The guy has been in this country since age 4: far below the age of consent, so legally, you can't charge him with illegal immigration.
About the only thing you COULD do is zap him for providing fraudulent documentation to a federal official, i.e. his recruiter. Problem is, WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH RECRUITS NOW, thanks to our "friends" in the media and in the "public-education-complex". I can remember, even back in the late 1970's, when I was in high school, teachers and counselors showing their "disappointment" at my choosing the military for a career (at the time: I did ROTC and 6 years, and left the Air Force just ahead of the RIFs. . .)

"We let thousands of Filipino's migrate to the US before and after WWII based on similar national interest grounds. It's ironic that Malkin, daughter of Filipino immigrants herself, seems to disagree."
Those were LEGAL immigrants, a huge difference (besides, the Phillipines were an American Protectorate/Territory then).
To: Ajnin
He is an illegal alien. He was an illegal alien. This has been rectified.
He knew it obviously, and did nothing to rectify the situation before willfully committing fraud to join the military.
He did rectify it- he joined the military. His problem is fixed now.
To: Salgak
Negative.
It is still fraudulence.
He can STILL be nailed with it since he is NOW under UCMJ and comes under the same regulations that I did when I was in uniform.
Try again.
What part of 'illegal' don't you people understand?
UCMJ is harsh, and people have been butt raped by it for far lesser crimes than Escalant is guilty of.
And he is given a pass on it.
There has been a breach of UCMJ, and it is ignored.
What part of that do you not understand?

Good post, (as usual) JH2...
IMHO, if there's not a "Coulter Rule" on Michelle's posts on FR, too -- there should be.
So there you go...

He did rectify it- he joined the military. His problem is fixed now.Being given legal status still doesn't change the fact that he went about it the wrong way. He was in violation of federal immigration law. He committed fraud and was rewarded for it by being allowed to stay in this country in the first place, allowed to join the military and then given legal status. I guess the upside of rewarding illegals for breaking our laws is that I still get paid 70 grand a year whether or not the government wants to enforce immigration laws.
