Did Anyone Receive This Deceptive Robo Call in California?
Armstrong & Getty Show ^ | 10.7.03 | Armstrong & Getty

I was wondering if anyone had gotten this deceptive robo-call. Armstrong & Getty played it a couple of times this morning. It's by a woman who says (paraphrased - unsure phrases in square brackets):

"As a Republican woman voter, I favor family values. But Arnold Schwarzenegger's [behavior makes it impossible for me to support him], and Tom McClintock can't win. So, vote no on the recall, and let's wait for a REAL Republican in 2006. And also, vote yes on 53 and no on 54. This message brought to you by the Council of Concerned Women (slightly softer voice) Voters."

This is the Democratic platform. There is no such organization as the Council of Concerned Women Voters. She said the word "voters" more softly, and if you weren't listening very carefully, you might think this was the actual conservative women's group Concerned Women for America.

I was watching the ABC station out of Sacramento this morning about 8:30 am and they showed the Diane Feinstein commercial begging people to vote NO on recall. Isn't it illegal for them to show campaign commercials the day of the election?

Clearly there is more to this than meets the eye.

Just damn.

If you want on the new list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

Well, I recieved a phone call in a poorly done Arnold impersonation asking for my vote (even though I live in PA), and how he hates those damn feminists who want to keep him from having fun.

What was even more suspicious is that the impersonator sounded like one of my brothers. An appropriate revenge will be exacted!

Anyone else get a Caller ID?

Now that we did get: the ID was blocked, for our ID readout said "Private Call."

Maybe I'm just naive but do these last minute desperation tactics actually work? I mean, are there really voters out there who scratch their heads on election morning and go "Gee, I was gung-ho for this Arnold guy up until I got this phone call from this concerned women organization telling me I oughta reconsider and pull the lever for Davis to stay in office...guess that's what I oughta do then."

I mean, c'mon! Are there really people like this?

There is a group called "Concerned Women of America" (or something very close to that) but they are far from conservative.

I oppose Proposition 53 for the same reason I opposed Proposition 98--because constitutional amendments make lousy fiscal management tools.

Isn't it illegal for them to show campaign commercials the day of the election?,p> It is. Did they show the spot as part of their "news coverage"? I find those spots funny. She never mentions Davis' name, and in the new one, doesn't say AS's name, either. "The governor's opponent." He has 134 of them.
