From a person who lives in the Midwest, what in the heck is a Cambodian doughnut?
Back in the late 70s, when the first Cambodians were coming into CA from the killing fields, one of them got work in a doughnut shop down in Orange County. He opened his own shop somehow within a year, and did well. So word spread throughout the Cambodian community, and donghnut shops became their route to middle class success. Seems like half the doughnut shops around in SoCal are Cambodian family owned, and they're generally very meticulous about their product. Very fluffy and light, not greasy, and they taste fresh all day long.

How interesting! I love stories about American success and the twists and turns immigrants take to make it here!
Here is an oddity for you from Indiana. Down in the southern part of the state, in Evansville, they have a really good barbecue. All the restaurants serve it with rye bread and onion, however, because of the German settlers along the river.

MMmmmm. Sounds infinitely better than Krispy Kremes IMO.

Half? Maybe in LA, but down here in the OC all the donut shops, save KK or Winchels, if you can find one, are run by Cambodians. I frequent my local one, which is directly across from our polling place at Trabuco Hills High School.
I'll still pass that one and drive the extra ten miles or so for a Krispy Kreme if the hot donuts light is on!

Would you consider faxing me some Cambodian donuts?

I agree, the Cambodians have the donut market locked down here in So. California. The one I frequent makes the best muffins I have ever tasted... my favorite is their apple muffin. Mmmmm.....
