Looks like you have a good system. Here in my part of Ohio we still have punch cards and never have any problems in our city - probably because it is mostly Republican...

Ah! The Industry Hills Sheraton. Now THAT'S a nice Hotel. It's at the top of a forrested hill in the middle of the city surrounded by equestrian trails. I think I'll turn out to watch my boy Arnie bring it home.

Looks like I was right. Turnout IS heavy for an off-year election.

Don't believe I've seen anyone mention it yet on this thread, but folks on the ground (unless they're election officials) won't be able to judge turnout related on previous elections. CA is only using a fraction of its polling places for this election, so even if turnout is exactly the same as last time, it will appear much heavier at each voting locale.

"First one at my polling place this morning. They hadn't even sworn in the poll workers. "

My informal, unscientific observation suggests a high turnout. I voted this morning on the way to work. Usually I am the 10th - 15th voter in my precinct. Today I was #24.

We changed from punch cards to an optical scan ballot. It is roughly leger size paper with two sides. One had to complete an arrow rather than fill in a box. There is an arrow pointing to each name with the center portion missing. One fills in the center section of the arrow pointing to the person one wishes to vote for.

It is a long ballot (3 columns, double sided for candidates). Expect a drop in voters between question #1 and #2.

That's the system we used. Do you live in San Bernadino County?

People should mention what county they are in when describing their voting experience, equipment, etc.

McClontick

They would have trouble with a name like McClintock over there. But, let it be Gutierrez...

Just a bit of light hearted advice.
When Vermont has 2 Republican Senators and a Republican Gov., then you can give advice to others.
Until then, solve your own problem first.

If you vote No on the recall, you should not be able to advance to question #2.

The dems are screaming because, as in North Dakota with Little Tom Thumb Daschle, the dems need to know how many votes they need to "create" if it is close.

It's not your father's Orange County anymore.
Casual immigration has drawn it to the dark side.

Good! The Democrats always want their big cities to be the last counted. It has always given the impression that it tells them how many votes they need to get from fraud. Them squealing like stuck pigs over OC holding back just feeds that suspicion (and if it is true, it screws them over). Love it!

Agreed, why do you get to vote twice? If you vote "No" just record it and toss the second part. Seems to me the "No" voters will help Bustamecha.

BTW: What are the two ballot initiatives again? 53 and 54? What are they about?

Well, how bout that? I'm listening to KGO now, and Pleasanton Councilwoman Kay Ayala just called in. She's a Democrat, and admitted that state spending was way out of control, and that the folks are ticked off. She also attended the Arnold rally there yesterday. Sounded like she approved!

I voted at about 8:45am. On the surface, one would think turnout was heavy, because there were a lot of people on line. But, because of the shortened election cycle, some precincts were combined. In my locality, three precincts were combined. So if I divide the number of people I saw in to three, I would say turnout appeared average.

There are so many confusing last-minute polls and cross-currents, that the outcome is very tough to predict. One outcome I fervently hope for is that the L. A. Times is brought to its financial knees by what they did.
