I think he takes over as soon as the election results are certified. That could take months if the Dems follow through on their lawsuits.

Bit complicated. Depends on when the recall results are certified.

What the heck are they going to litigate this time?

They're going to charge Arnold with the crime of WWR -- Winning While Republican. If they look the other way on *that* sort of offense, who knows where it would lead?

What did you say, Sabertooth?

Well, I was on with Hugh and Daniel Weintraub. Hugh asked Weintraub to referee, but I said that I didn't call to flame him, it was too good a day, because Davis was getting the boot.

I made the point that a vote for McClintock wasn't a vote for Bustamante, it was a vote to remove Davis, and both Arnold and Tom supporters could enjoy the moment.

Hugh asked what I thought about the report that McClintock was exit polling at around 12%-- what did that mean for the California electorate?

I said that I thought several weeks ago that McClintock wasn't going to win, and that today's vote showed that the CA electorate wasn't ready for him, but also that future Republican candidates weren't going to get a majority without getting McClintock voters.

Hugh made a point about the Car Tax breaking the back of the Davis governorship. I agreed, but observed that the back started to break early in Davis' first term, when he spiked Prop #187.

Hugh brought up the Illegal Alien drivers' licenses, and asked what we thought about Davis moving so far to the Left in his campaign. I said that it was a strategic mistake, because he left the center wide open for Arnold. Both Hugh and Weintraub agreed that the strategy had backfired for Davis' recall chances.

I observed that it was worse than a mistake for this campaign, but also for the Democrats next year, because the anti-SB60 referendum will be on the ballot at the same time that eight of ten Democrat Presidential candidates who support Amnesty for Illegals will be for the March Primary.

Hugh asked what we thought about some exit numbers showing Arnold outpolling Bustamante with Latinos. I said that it meant that politicians weren't going to make inroads with the Latino electorate by pandering to them as Latinos. They need to be approaches like anyone else, as people who want to earn their way into the middle class and make a good life for their kids. Both Hugh and Weintraub agreed on that point.

I'm paraphrasing from memory, but that's the gist of it. I'm leaving out a lot of what they said, it's not like I dominated the conversation. Kinda nice, though, to get a whole segment and have a chance to develop a few points.

Sorry about the double post to some of you. I don't usually respond from the "My Comments" page, and I just realized I got the same questions on two different threads.

Even if they are RINO's...just having an (R) after the name is enough to drive them nuts.

Just think, Calif, NY and Mass all have Republican governors. Also TX and FL...now if the GOP can take Illinois, they'll all croak.

His political career is over. The party warned him not to take this 3-point shot, and he only would have been forgiven if he'd sunk it. As it is, it's The Wreck Of The Cruz Bustamante (with apologies to G. Lightfoot)!

This is the new talking point being heavily pushed (though someone noted it's been mentioned before). Maria Liasson brought it up on Brit's roundtable, but he made her spell it out and she was laughed at by Fred.

But if the win is by a landslide, hopefully they certify the results sooner, because the Dems can pull two dozen court challenges about some poor "disenfrenchized" voters.

One thing somebody needs to make sure of, is to stop Davis from shredding all the evidence of corruption.

I just heard on WMAL radio in D.C. that Jesse Jackson called in California for keeping the polls open past 8 o'clock.

The people who vote at night usually have busy daytime jobs, the kind of people who can't wait to get rid of Davis and his tax hikes.

Unless Jackson is planning on bringing in people who already voted in the morning, illegal aliens, dead folks, etc

I estimated early this morning that approximately 134% of the registered voters would turn out today... I wonder how close I am to being right? ;0)

Good work I'm sure. And there's no doubt that both Tom and Arnold supporters will gleefully watch Davis getting dragged from office. That's one thing on which we all agree.

YES. Schwarzenegger should make a televised, somber announcement to the press to the effect of,

"The centerpiece of my campaign was my promise to Open The Books. Now we hear that paper shredders are being dispatched to Gray Davis's offices in his expectation of being recalled.

"Let me remind Mr. Davis that the records of his administration are public and may well be important to me or whomever succeeds him, if that successor is to understand what went wrong under Mr. Davis, and why. I will seek criminal prosecution of anyone engaging in illegal destruction or theft of documents."

I sooo hope the dem's are stupid enough to launch lawsuits left and right. IMHO, MANY folks are tired of the shenanigans. It would help de-base the run of the mill dem's..

Fox News is reporting that the Dems already have challenges to the CA election drawn up and upon the polls closing tonight will immediately file for court injunctions to block the announcement of the vote or who won. They reportedly already have Liberal judges lined-up to issue injunctions.

*Please* let the Democrats be stupid enough to do this, and their hand-picked judges stupid enough to rule for an injunction.

The public outrage would ensure that the Democratic party was toast in California for years to come -- if not hanging from lampposts by dawn.
