I just called Budweiser (www.budweiser.com) and asked about the story. The person taking my call couldn't (or wouldn't) confirm weither Bud was providiong money for this program with Cruz. I told him that the Cruz calls were advertising that Budweiser was a sponsor.
He said that Budweiser often gives money to both parties. I went on to say that if it is true that who ever made that dumb decision at Budweiser should be fired because they're going to alienate many Republicans and I, for one, would never drink their beer again if they were so actively involved with the Dems on this one.
Giving money is one thing; sponsoring something like this is another.
Screw Budweiser!

Bud Light for Bustamante Light...makes sense for a light beer to support a lightweight candidate who looks like a poster boy for what happens when you drink too much of the stuff you sort of look stuffed.
No more Bud in this home ever again.

"Major funding by Anheuser-Busch."This is no surprise if you understand what demographic is their largest customer and the fastest growing consumer group in California.
This was a business decision designed to improve their sales volume. The connection to politics is secondary in that Davis and Bustamante would more likley insure that their primary customer would remain a stable demographic and in fact, continue to increase in size.
Beer was traditionaly the alcoholic beverage of choice of the blue collar worker, consuming the product in a bar as frequently as in the home. The changing social attitudes in California, accelerated by the MADD movement, has shifted the marketing emphasis to package stores and the primary customer is not particularly bothered by the consequences of the newer and much more harsh drunk driving laws.
