Bush Asserts Israel's Right to Defense

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) declined to criticize Israel Monday for its air strike inside Syria, saying Israel "has got a right to defend herself." But Bush also said he had cautioned Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) to try to avoid escalating tensions in the region.

Bush decried the "needless murder" of 19 people in a suicide attack by a Palestinian militant group in Israel on Saturday that led to the Israeli attack on a suspected terrorist camp in Syria.

Bush said that the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites) must do more to fight terror and "must use whatever means is necessary .... All parties must assume responsibility."

Despite the obligatory public caveat urging Israel not to escalate, it's much more an endorsement of the right of self defend.

I agree. Syria is the next member of the Axis of Evil.

Your statement shows a much too kind approach to a nest of diseased cockroaches! This is what you have to settle in your mind. Did they telegraph their intentions before they attacked The Jewish Nation? Certainly not! Rules mean nothing to these sub human knuckle draggers. The only law they practice is that of the Jungle! i understand that israel was attacked in a most gruesome way, but shouldnt they have at least consulted with syria before just launching an attack in its territories?

I watched it Friday that's why it was fresh in my head. My wife couldn't understand WHY I would want to watch this movie. I'd say it's one of my all time favorites.

Back in the Saturday Night at the Movies days on NBC, we had to be really good to be able to 'stay up past our bedtime' to watch TDTESS (older sis a 1951 model, me a 1953 version). Always tried to memorize the command that Klattu gave Patricia Neal?? in the cab - 'Klaatu barada nikto', but at that age never could remember it the next day. :)
