TOM MCCLINTOCK DAILY EDITION - 10/6/03 (CA GOVERNOR'S RACE)
Please post local, regional, national news and views on Tom McClintock. This is a news and info thread. The following guidelines for posting are per DoughtyOne's most excellent suggestion.
McClintock Camp - Supporters or Defenders
Please post positive articles about Tom's policies and leave the Schwarzenegger bashing to the Democrats.
Schwarzenegger Camp - Supporters or Defenders
The call for McClintock to withdraw right now, or the tactic of calling him and his followers names for not doing so, is not productive and isn't good for the party.
Please save the Rino Arnold/Unelectable Tom rants for other threads.
"Dear Mr. Reagan, it should be obvious to you now that you can never be elected governor. Please put aside your ego, for the good of our party, and get behind the one man who is moderate enough to appeal to California voters - - San Francisco Mayor George Christopher."

Good luck RR. Not a Californian and I'm sure Tom and I differ on certain issues but he seems to be the only man running with any integrity.

McClintock makes name for himself in recall
Candidate seen as champion of conservatives
http://www.insidevc.com/vcs/state/article/0,1375,VCS_122_2324974,00.html By Dawn C. Chmielewski, Knight Ridder Newspapers

Excerpt
SAN JOSE -- State Sen. Tom McClintock may fall short of his dream of the California governorship, but he walks away with something of a consolation prize: a national reputation as a rising star of the Republican right.
McClintock has emerged as a hero among the nation's leading conservatives, who admire his straightforward style and undiluted views. He enjoys the highest favorable ratings of any candidate in the Oct. 7 recall race, according to the most recent Los Angeles Times Poll, even though he trails a distant third in the field of candidates vying to replace Gov. Gray Davis if he is recalled. And even Democrats have come to admire his principles and integrity during the campaign.

This Knight-Ridder article in praise of Tom McClintock might as well be a Gray Davis or Cruz Bustamante press release.

Hope you mailed in your absentee ballot!

A vote for Arnold is a vote for a Kennedy scion. Having a husband involved in politics certainly worked for Hilary. If she gets in, be sure to thank your local G.O.P. rep.

TOM had better pray that BUSTAMANTE is not elected. if bustamante is elected tom is toast for ever. These constant threats to Tom's career are out of line. I would think twice about alienating the 15%-20% of conservatives that continue to stand for principles, especially considering the balance in Calif.

Actually Steve50 it's 15% to 20% of the electrorate base. California is only about 36% conservative. So they are alienating HALF of the conservative base. But, they don't want to talk about that.

Unruffled by the Recall Circus, Tom McClintock Makes a Good Case for Dull
By Hank Stuever

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 5
On Saturday morning, about 30 true believers in Tom McClintock are gathered in a meeting room at a Courtyard Marriott nestled in a corporate office park off the 805 Freeway. Courtyard Marriotts figure prominently in California grassroots operatics in these final days of the recall campaign: Someone is always about to appear at one or hold a debate at another, and TV cameras are often out front or inside. For every Ritz-Carlton or packed arena briefly graced by the presence of Arnold Schwarzenegger, there's a Courtyard Marriott with a Tom McClintock vibe to it.
(snip)
The crowd does its best to get pumped up, and they start chanting, "Go, Tom, Go," but for all the world it sounds like "Go, John Doe." Tom keeps going anyhow, out to the parking lot, utterly convinced he's the one.
It's probably not a good time to tell him we have a crush on him, but we all sorta do, and anyway, he kinda knows. (snip)

Top of the morning...I am listening to the Mark Larson show online and he is saying that it may take 38 or 39 days to count all the ballots and validate the election. He is also saying the this whole election could be tied up in the courts system forever with all the appeals that he feels will be filed no matter who wins...

re: gop reps...
I saw Duf Sundheim on NBC news defending Arnold. He was comparing Arnold's "minor actions" to Bill Clinton sex scandals. Grrrrrrrrrrr. It made me so mad.
I was infuriated with Clinton for LYING.... and continuing to lie every chance he got. Duf's comparisons were wrong (in my opinion) and his public defense of Arnold's actions is just bringing the party down.

Funny, I saw Doof on Fox today. With Art Torres. Interesting how their respective poll numbers invalidated each other.
