McClintock Calls on Schwarzenegger to Resign If Charges Prove True
State Senator Tom McClintock called on Arnold Schwarzenegger to withdraw from the race for governor if allegations of improper sexual advances prove to be true.
Asked by reporters what he would tell Schwarzenegger, McClintock said, "If those allegations are true, you should drop out of the race."
McClintock was careful not to condemn Schwarzenegger out of hand, but made his feelings on the issue clear. "If the allegations are true, and again coming as late as they are, I believe they need to be treated with great skepticism, that conduct is reprehensible," he said.
He went on to tell reporters that if the charges are proven, Schwarzenegger does not deserve to occupy the governor's office. "As the father of a 13-year-old daughter, I would have a great deal of trouble accepting that that kind of conduct has been elevated to the highest office in the state," he said.
The potential scandal hovering over Schwarzenegger could provide an unexpected boost for McClintock's campaign. The conservative state senator is current lagging well behind both Schwarzenegger and Democrat Cruz Bustamante in the polls.

He is jumping onto the Davis bandwagon. I will restrain the words I really want to say to you.

Breaks Reagan's 11th Commandment and gives credence to spurious and down-and-dirty smear allegations from the left all in one blow.
Spoiler McClintock, a man with no chance of becoming California's next Governor, is a jackass who should be punished severely by the Republican Party in California after this is over.

Yeah, that's just what you all are gonna need...because you know, you're gonna have to try and punish a pretty large bloc of the CA GOP along with him.

A couple weeks ago when asked to step down, Tom made the statement that he was staying in because there was a "scenario" where he might win. Well, we just saw it. Tom was counting on the media sliming of Arnold the week before voting, hoping to slide in under the muslinging radar of Mulholland.
I just lost all respect I had for the guy. Screw him.

I used to like McClintock but am totally disgusted with him at this point.
It's incredibly disappointing when a man who professes to share your values turns out to have a personally despicable character.

It's always been a game. Sometimes you have to be willing to sacrifice your bishop to take the queen.

He wasn't 'counting on the smear'. Everyone on the planet that was paying attention knew it was coming, including Arnold.
How would you have felt if they had succeeded?
To: EternalVigilance
You need to go get some fresh air, buddy. You are obsessed with all of this way too much, IMHO. Chill - go spend time with your family - while they still remember who you are.

Tom was never going to be Governor in 2003. Very true. My son lives in California and, I hate to say it, is a Dem. But he wanted to vote for a Republican for Gov because he hated Gray Davis and thought the Dems had come to the end of the line. However, he said McClintock was totally off the wall and he ended up voting for nobody.
Pull in the marginal voters, elect Arnold and then pressure on him to become more conservative in social matters if he wants to be elected again. California is in a bad way, and it's not going to change overnight.

I have serious trouble believing all the bullcrap that has been piled on Arnold by the Times, nor do I take at face value their explanation that the story took this long to develop. Personally, I am extremely suspicious that Democratic operatives pointed the Times in the right direction.
That said, I'm not convinced that all of these stories are true. Many happened between 15 and 20 years ago. The one that happened in 2000 is in serious dispute. But let's assume that at least some of the charges are true.
Arnold still wins. Why?
Democrats are, at bottom, craven idiots, that's why. Had they taken their Constitutional obligations seriously in 1998, Clinton would have been removed from office. Al Gore would have become President and would have won election outright in 2000. As it was, they circled the wagons and gave Bill Clinton a pass.
In all probability Bill Clinton treated his women a lot worse than Arnold treated his. Rape is a lot more serious a charge than grabass, which is basically what Arnold was doing. And Arnold hasn't even lied to a Federal Judge yet.
Democrats gave Clinton a free pass. For that reason, Arnold gets one, too. This is causing the Grayout no end of heartache, but the Dems brought this on themselves. Democrats made their bed; now they have to lie in it.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

I was merely stating facts. Do you have a problem with facts?
To: EternalVigilance
As Tom said, do you think would Arnold take that behaviour to Sacramento? Do you really believe that? Wait, I already know the answer...
To: Recourse
I guess this was a safe kick for Tom to take, but I am still a bit disappointed that he took it.
Oh well, he IS a politician. Expecting otherwise wouldn't be realistic.
