"What good is it for a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul in the process?"

What good is it for republicans/conservatives to win an election at the cost of their principles?

I am sorry that Arnold supports abortion but there is no viable candidate who is against it. Only McClintock who just might win a mayoral election in Simi Valley. Might.

Well, there you go; well put. I just don't see how helping the unborn's worst enemies retain power helps them.

Yeah, how silly of Christ to die for them.

Oh, brother... loosen your necktie, pal.

Well done, BibChr. I am not in CA but wish you all well in your election of a Republican. No one gets 100% of what they want. Be strategic folks and good luck Tuesday.

Tuesday morning, I'm going to get up, walk to the polling place, and do what I think is the right thing for this state: Drop the hammer on Gray Davis and Cruz Bustamante. I believe I can best do that by voting for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Anybody and everybody who wants to join me in doing that is welcome to...yeah, Team McClintock, even you guys, if you decide to change your mind. If not...fine. I'm running out of time to convince you otherwise, even if I still had the patience, which I lost a good while back. I would hope we agreed on one thing in any case. There should be only two answers to the question, "Shall Gray Davis be recalled from the office of Governor?" from each and every Freeper in California: "Yes" and "Hell, yes".

Good, common-sense advice that isn't as common as one would hope. Thanks!

OL. What the scorched-earth subset does as a substitute for "dialogue" has had my brain aching more times than I can say.

Some of his votes got lost??? The reality is he didn't vote for Bush. He didn't vote in that election.

I'm sorry you don't find putting a Kennedy scion in office very relevant, but I suspect the rest of California might.
It is a monumental bone-headed move by the CA G.O.P. that could have been easily mitigated if they through their support behind the candidate that embraces the platform.

You are right - it is the real deal - and Tom is the only one fit to govern this state. The CA G.O.P. had a choice - and it made a bad one.

Better pray that Maria has no interest in politics or you can kiss California and the nation goodbye for the next generation - or more.

Frankly, I don't really care what her positions are, I'm just curious as to how folks are characterizing her as far, far left when I've never seen much evidence of where she does stand on the Democrat spectrum. I also understand that the Shrivers are not as close to the Kennedy Clan as other parts of the extended family.

As far as putting the "fox in the henhouse"... do you let your wife dictate your political values to you? I don't know too many men that would.

She doesn't need to dictate to Arnold. She can run on her own - worked for Hilary, Sonny Bono's wife, and many other spouses. And Arnold would have to support her. Quid pro quo. And she could run using the same platform as Arnold. Using the same strategy, could pull the same numbers. Except she can go all the way to the White House.

While you are examing the trees with a microscope, you are missing the forest. This is NOT a primary between Republican candidates.

It's either Schwarzenegger or Bustamante.

Tom has ZERO chance of winning, he had zero chance from the beginning, but by now it should be obvious to even his most devoted supporters.

If you want Bustamante, just say so, that will be the result of your vote, if you insist on casting it for McClintock.

Considering the Dem slime campaign against Arnold, the 5-10% of the votes cast or not cast for McClintock may well decide whether we have Bustamane or Schwarzenegger: strengthen Dem control of CA or break it.

Every time I read Romans I am stricken by the fact that the present world is depressingly similar to the ancient world Paul described in the passage you quote.

Depressing on the one hand, but encouraging on the other. The word tells us that the condition of the world will again be very much like that which was described by Paul when our Lord returns to assume his throne and his kingdom. That gives me hope by reminding me that this depressing situation is only temporary, and that a far better day is not too far off in the future for those of us who have placed our faith in the only one who has ever risen from the dead once and for all time. I am not sure enough to be dogmatic about the exact sequence of events, but whether I observe that coronation from earth or from the ramparts of heaven, either way it will be the most thrilling event of all time and I just can't wait for it to happen.

And thank God, that expectation doesn't depend on the promises of any ambitious politician or the machinations of a power-hungry political party to bring it to reality. It will not be of man's doing, and it is more certain than the rising of the sun tomorrow. I don't mean to offend post-millenialist or amillenialist Christians by stating my beliefs, but they need to stop listening to their over-educated modernist ministers and start taking God's promises as he made them to be taken, literally.

In a perfect world McClintock would have my vote, but it isn't and unfortunately we have to deal with choices that go along with it. . . . God is just as concerned about how we conduct our daily life for Him, not just this one event. . . . It isn't fun what is going on in California, but each person has to vote their conscience and nobody else has a right to judge that vote.

This sounds like the transcript of a commercial for the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. At least, your slogans mirror theirs, and those of Planned Parenthood as well. Is California really that far gone?

When you are examining your G.O.P. script for the "correct" answer, think about what they aren't telling you.

You have alienated half of your conservative base.

You are in danger of putting a Kennedy scion on the road to the White House.

You are forgetting the Arnold already had one aborted run for governor - terminated because of another scandal that hasn't been discussed by the LA Times - yet. He was tainted goods a long time ago.

You now have a man whose credibility will be questioned endlessly by his Dem. opponents if he gets into office and tries to push through anything remotely resembling a Republican agenda.

The CA G.O.P. hopes to create a self-fullfilling prophesy - through the hard efforts of people like yourself, carrots dangled in front of key people and about $18 million dollars.

The final and only real poll is in two days. The poll that will reflect all the undecideds and new voters - whose voices have never been counted. Scary, isn't it?

Thank you for that Biblical commentary. After searching through all my QuickVerse commentaries and looking at the Hebrew constructions, the only sensible interpretation is that God highly valued the mother and unborn child and placed a penalty of death for death. Normally, accidental homicides still had an "escape" clause, but not in this special protected case.

However, like you, I do not feel that McC will advance our Christian views, so I do not feel he is the best candidate.

Why don't you watch Davis on CNN -- he is on Larry King right now and ask yourself, whether you want his reign to continue by either him beating the recall, or by electing Bustamante.
