Conan the Vulgarian (Why some conservative guys inexplicably support Arnold)

[EXCERPT]
The men who don't make it to the top in that world still have the compensation of identifying with the one man who does, as long as they don't identify with any of the women, as long as they don't "say nothing." They still belong to the pack, by virtue of being male.
No matter how much sand gets kicked in their face, they still can fantasize that one day they, too, like Charles Atlas, will do enough leg lifts to rise in the ranks. At a time of deep economic and international insecurity, the easy power of the bully boy is a siren call to the American male populace, as evidenced by President Bush's continuing allure to the very men whose interests are least served by his domestic and foreign policies. The locker room game works as long as only men get to play, and only as long as they agree to play by certain rules. One rule is that sensuality is verboten, but aggressive jocularity is not. Humiliating women in a "playful" way can signal a powerful rejection of "the feminine" and a powerful reinforcement of male bonding.

I don't usually agree with Faludi, but she seems to have hit on something here. It sure makes sense why so many guys who have traditionally been conservative here on FR and elsewhere are running around using their deepest voice to shout "YEAHH GO ARNUUUUULD...kick some butt man...yeauuuuhhhh ..ooh ooh..ooh..." even though Arnold supports the pansy-*ss views of the left.
I know I'll get flamed for it, but I'm going to stick to my conservative values.

I would like to take a moment to ask for donations.
It should be clear to all conservatives by now that the left intends to demonize us. They don't just disagree with us, they hate us. And worse, they want to get other people to hate us.
Places like Free Republic drive the left batty.
Please donate. Thanks for your consideration.

I have to disagree. Obviously, McClintock is the better choice but Arnold is still a big step in the right direction compared to Davis or Bustamante. After all, it IS California. Plus, I think some people relate to him more now since the 'rats are attacking him as if he were a Conservative Republican.
To: ElkGroveDan
It seems that most on the Left and many on the Right want to punish Arnold for achieving the American Dream. He could have been a Democrat, making life easier for himself, both in his family life and professionally, and to enter politics without the vicious attacks.

Yes, we're all pre-adolescents. LOL!
The thought of Republicans, even conservatives, filling the appointed positions in California government is too cerebral for us just like she says LOL!
I have the impression that the Dem's polling shows that beating down Arnold is the best way to defeat the recall and save Davis- that Davis apparently would beat the recall if McClintock would be the winner.

Humiliating women in a "playful" way can signal a powerful rejection of "the feminine" and a powerful reinforcement of male bonding. I would like to see the LA times investigate how many times Arnold has pushed away women who made unwanted sexual advances and who did unwanted touching of arnold. I suspect the number in 1000 or more.

Psychobabble wrapped in a dubious metaphor. "Siren call of the bully boy?" Quick, bind your latent, inner leather-freak to the mast.

This may get me into some trouble....but here goes.
How many of these 'so called' victems were in truth flattered that Mr Universe grabbed a boob or butt cheek? I bet to a woman they ALL ran home to call every girlfriend they could reach to brag they were 'touched' by a real 'alpha male'.
My money would be on 'It was one of the best days of my life'.
If Miss America was to grab my butt I would be smiling ear to ear!
Methinks these womyn protest too much! This is about the feminist view that men are to be controled, and women are to have 'choices'.
Oh, and I am voting for the body builder, at least he has a chance to win...

I want to know how many of these gropees thought that Bubba's accusers were nothing but big-haired, ignorant, white, Southern, trailer-trash. We know how many of the women's groups, columnists, and politicians thought so.

The author of this piece is a genuine coward, who can't get his way so he slams the other's masculinity in attempted insult. The gutter, thats where the slimes live.

He could have been a Democrat, making life easier for himself, both in his family life and professionally, and to enter politics without the vicious attacks. Had he enterred in the Democratic party, you Arniebots would be having fits of frustration because the press would be giving Arnol(D) a pass. < LOL >
The Establishment has 3 candidates.
- Davis first.
- (R)nold second.
- Buste third.
The one candidate they do not want is Tom McClintock. The darn boyscout will bust up their drunken spending orgies.
The old publicity adage goes: the only bad publicity is NO publicity.
Well, the chief Establishment canditates are getting all the press and name recognition throughout this last weekend's newscycle.
And we already know where THEY stand on sexism -- give 'em more of it!
And McClintock stays out of the fray, and so gets none of the free publicity he'd get if he enterred it. He remains the only statesman in the race.
And meanwhile all the arniebots are hoping for a backlash to come their way. < LOL > -- well so much for their outrage. Give 'em more of it! < LOL >
Go out my friends and get your friends and neighbors to stick it in the establishment party's collective ear on October 7!
Beat the Machiavellians.
Elect Tom McClintock Governor of California

I am finally forming words to explain what I see as total hypocrisy on the Arnold/McClintock thing...
When Bill Clinton groped women, we said that was a reason to state he had no morals and should be kept from office. We were right of course, but the Dems said, "So What?"
Now, Arnold is proven to grope women, the Dems say he is unfit to hold office because of that, and the Repubs are saying, "So What?"
Who is the bigger hippocrite here? Us with Arnold? Or the Dems, with Clinton?
And don't bring up Juanita, groping is still groping, and is certainly a reason to say someone is unfit, regardless if there is a worse charge after that, groping is still a reason to say someone is unfit!
And a guy like McClintock, with no baggage, and great ideas and a wholesome attitude and outlook, is considered not worthy of voting for or supporting as a party.
Is it any wonder why the Republicans are called THE STUPID PARTY?
