BATON ROUGE -- Political newcomer Bobby Jindal completed an improbable run from a little-known former state and federal health-care official to easily lead the gubernatorial primary Saturday and set up a historic Nov. 15 runoff against two-term Lt. Gov. Kathleen Blanco.

Is it me, or does it seem like Blanco is walking the racial remarks border?

Go Bobby!

Jindal sounds like a guy who can find solutions to problems, instead of more political rhetoric.

However, I think the run-off will be a tougher task for him, especially if he cannot get the African-American votes.

Blanco faces her own problems on that score, considering she never bothered to compete for black votes in the primary; most voted for Ieyoub or Leach.

I am happy to see Bobby Jindal make it to the November 15 runoff. That he received an impressive one-third of the votes cast still means, of course, that two-thirds of the voters did not support him. Add to that the fact that the vast majority of voters supported Democratic gubernatorial candidates. Indeed, Bobby has an uphill battle before him to garner the 50% plus majority necessary to win the runoff.

My choice on November 15 is Bobby Jindal.
