I like McNabb too.
However, because of this controversy, I want him to become a miserable failure. I have no problem admitting it. He whined like a bitch, instead of going out on the field and proving Rush wrong in his own way.

It's really hard to measure anything objectively in football except the all-important final score, as the endeavor is a team effort. If, for example, a QB makes the correct read and throws a perfect spiral right between the numbers of his receiver and "butter fingers" ham-hands the reception so it pops up in the air and is intercepted it goes as a "pick' against the QB. But was the blame his? My point is this: I suspect there are about 20 teams in the NFL that wish they had MCNabb. He is a good QB. {Also, he was voted to the Pro Bowl by other players who, one would assume, ought to know talent better than you and I.}

Oh, I see.
Your football point wasn't coming through to me that clearly for some reason.
Multiple choice time.
Relative to Rush's statement: How much of his statement was a) football related, b) media bias related, c) race related, or d) something else.
To: Pukin Dog
Worst of it is, if McNabb is great, how do we know it's not the guys that think like him laying down for him?
The "Professionals" in the NFL lay down all the time. Maybe not at the end of the season but they give up a lot in the beginning of the season.

football is not about "potential", it's about "performance". That's a pretty good metaphor for the conservative philosophy as compared to the liberal one -- liberals are about intention and feelings ("I didn't INTEND to kill...I feel BAD about it..") and conservatives care only about what actually happens.
In fact, this also illustrates the issue at hand; Liberals are trying to project feelings and intentions on Rush's statement, while we are trying to redirect the focus to WHAT WAS SAID.

I'm beginning to think Rush has better hearing than you do.
Rush said the media was "desirous of having a black quarterback succeed" which is a moronic statement, in that, many already have!
Had Rush said the media is "desirous of seeing all black quarterbacks succeed" it would at least have made sense.

Lest we not forget who ultimately owns ESPN: the king of diversity and all things leftist: Michael Eisner. You mean the same Michael Eisner whose ABC radio network carried an ad all last week that included these words - "Irish Catholic baboons". That Michael Eisner?!?! I'm shocked, shocked to find racism at ESPN.

A good portion of Philadelphia didn't even want him. They wanted Ricky Williams (another over rated player). The media pumps him up. That's the point.
Wanting a player is not the same as PAYING for a player. Few teams could afford him. His salary is part of his inflation.
Ramsey is as good statistically but gets paid a fraction.
Football is more than moving the ball down the field. So, it is just that simple. If you spend money on your QB or RB, the rest of the Team may suffer. The team that wins is the best. McNabb's replacements did pretty good last year after his injury.
That is what is good about football. It is objective. The rats don't want that to be the case.
Yes, the NFL wants to make players like movie stars. That's why McNabb sells soup. But, it's also why drug users and wife beaters can be forgiven. It's about stardom.
Rush was commenting for the rest of us that think football is about strategy, execution, preparation. Can't have that, can we?
You know the action would be more spectacular if they just hired actors to play the parts and orchestrated the plays. They could get the cameras angles right, and they could pick the politically correct winner at the end of the year.

And Liberals can't stand football.
Why aren't there more black owners? Why aren't there more gay quarterbacks? Why aren't there more female quarterbacks? Why aren't there more fat quarterbacks? Why aren't there more handicapped cornerbacks. Why aren't there more blind punters?

Just some of the intellectuals here can't read and comprehend the written word.
Carry on. You're doing a yeoman's job.
NOTE: That's " a very professional job" for those of you from hunger.

Hey, Joe,
Are your watching the Chicago Bears this afternoon?
To: Joe_October
I agree that McNabb is overrated. However, Rush made the point you and I believe he made so clumsily that he opened the door for the dogs to attack and destroy him. And they did, at least as it relates to his ESPN gig!

My network is showing Chargers Jacksonville but I won't watch it. My Saints were on this morning.
But, both broadcasts had one black and one white commentator so they were correct. How come there aren't two black commentators? Why is it always one white guy and one black guy or sometimes (heavens forbid) two white guys.
How come no woman, children or hispanics. I think someone has some explaining to do.

.... clumsily ....
No way. It was clear. It was 100% correct. He probably had it memorized and he probably knew what they would do. Sorry, it had to be done.
Arnold is a groper Hitler worshipper as well. It was just a matter of time before they picked something. Now is as good a time as ever. The media would shout any charge and twist it as they have done without concern for the truth. Racist is the worst you can be according to them. Sorry, white Racist.
He won't be destroyed by ESPN. He'll pick up audience.
ESPN is lucky they broke the drug charges or conservatives would be up in arms more than they are now.

The make up of the team you listed sounded like what the Bears have this season.
You are right on the media appearance.
It is a policy to "balance" the on air people.

Come on why aren't there more blind punters? Why should blind people not get to enjoy football? Why can't blind people see more blind faces on television (uhh, you get my point).
Come on punters and place kickers aren't really part of the team. No one talks to them. They could just put one in and call it good. We could just vote if he scored or not.
Oh know another blind punter took a long snap in the stones. I hate when that happens.

While I think Rush was right I don't think it was a point that needed to be made, especially by a guy who KNEW going into things that the lefft was gunning for him. He could have just as easily made the point that McNabb is overrated because the media likes him (which is just as true) and not have crossed a line he himself said he wasn't going to cross. He said he wasn't going to get into social issues and he went plunging not only into a social issue but a loaded social issue that can't be won because of the baggage that surrounds it. A real rookie mistake on Rush's part, made worse by the fact that he wound up proving all his critics right.

ohhh, that's gotta' hurt.
My Saints are not victims of diversity. They just stink. There was something going on in the locker room and they had to let a bunch of guys go. Some of the talent went with them but as it was, they couldn't win at the end of the season. The coaches made some hard choices. So, we rebuild.
Football management is very difficult. As long as we measure the results on the field, the Left will not be part of the mix.
