SACRAMENTO The last debate before Tuesday's unprecedented California recall election will take place this evening at 5 p.m. at the KPBS studios on the San Diego State University campus.
The debate, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of San Diego County, KPBS and The San Diego Union-Tribune, features three of the four major replacement candidates Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock of Thousand Oaks and Green Party candidate Peter Camejo. Gov. Gray Davis' wife, Sharon Davis, is scheduled to represent the governor.
Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has emerged as the front-runner to replace Davis should he be recalled has declined to participate.

McClintock is through as a GOP sponsored statewide candidate. He's a lone wolf, that's not going to get you elected to statewide office. He fell on his sword to satisfy you guys. I hope you enjoyed the spectacle. Which horse you gonna ride into the ground next election?
He's a good man. If he's out of his seat through redistricting, he'll land a six figure CFO job at HP, Cisco, Intel, Cargill or somewhere. The guy would be a stellar hire for any HealthCare, Utility or other regulated firm that needs his knowledge. He's a bright, dedicated guy. He'll land beautifully.
There was no rational reason for him to sink with the ship. None.
That's how you judge someone for their qualifications for higher office? LOL .. My my... he probably never had a group orgy either so I guess he would have problems connecting to the hedonistic masses in Hollywood too. ;-)
Governance is not always an art that a$$toot(sic) businessmen can master. But all we can be is vigilant and on top of our leaders like white on rice to make sure they are not just fleecing us for their own agenda.
We'll see soon enough after arnie has folks go thru the books, etc. And how the budget process is handled. Yup, should be real interesting.
btw , how about this "debate", both camejo and cruz are kissing illegals heinies like crazy. LOL
Ya got to love these bastards, they just don't give up. And neither will Tom in serving the people and not himself to all the goodies.
That's how you get into the 9 figure world of Net Worth. Everybody has T2, Predator and Terminator on DVD. Millions and millions of units.
Arnold's partnering with Warren Buffett is likely not a newly met relationship either. Arnold's got some money in play with the eyebrows outta control Nebraskan I'd guess
Too bad Arnold doesn't know economics though. LOL
Wake Up Call: Arnold Schwarzenegger is now the party boss of the California GOP.
Wake Up Call 2: For every one of you guys that leave the GOP because it no longer makes pure pro-life support the ultimate principle ... Two or three moderate ideology Californians will take your place.
Wake Up Call 3: You no longer have make or break leverage over GOP success or failure. You're going to have to fit in if you want a seat. If you're out, you don't have the numbers to win on your own, you don't have the numbers to blow up Moderate GOP candidates and hand Democrats your top offices to punish the GOP for impertinence.
Amateur Hour in California Republican politics is over on October 8. Some folks are interested in getting Republicans elected to office. I can see why California has been seized by the Democrats ... you dead enders would rather blow up the RINOs than remove a Socialist. Pure disease. You're the damn RINOs.
If political party participants display leadership and want to work hard enough, he/she can become a "party boss". When they achieve those positions, very often they become disliked just because they are the "bosses". Well, they didn't rise that high because they are Elsie Dinsmores. It's because they're tough and effective. The rank and file put them there in the first place.
However, if folks don't like the party bosses, they can replace them by running against them in regularly-held party caucuses and conventions.
Again, political parties would fall apart if there were no "bosses". They are a necessary evil and one hopes for leaders with integrity, effectiveness and political smarts. If they are corrupt or make too many wrong decisions, volunteers have to be found to run against them and boot them out.
However, most members of both national, state and local political parties (us) are afraid to buck their leaders or have reached accomodations with them. Or they don't have the time, money and connections to run. So, elected leaders become entrenched and then automatically become "party bosses".
We see how grassroots Republicans and DemoRATS alike deride their own particular Senate leadership (who are "party bosses") who can't keep mavericks like McCain, Jeffords, Zell Miller or Snow in line. So, we see situations where voters in each party want party bosses to crack the whip on these loose cannons, and yet they don't want to have any powerful "party bosses". Hmmmm.
The California Republican "party bosses" are doing what they're supposed to do (in their own minds) for a Republican win.....i.e., try to keep Republicans on one reservation to win an elective office. We can agree or disagree with their tactics. In this case many McClintock supporters disagree.
So, California conservatives must organize to get new party leaders in and get the current ones out if they're unhappy and want to change things. The opportunity exists if they want to pursue it. Just bemoaning things without doing anything about it will not change a thing.
Perhaps if McClintock loses, he will want to then organize an effective conservative resurgance movement in the liberal state. He would be an excellent leader, but he would need grassroots help.
"All politics is local".

Yep. Those so-called "party bosses" brought little to Arnold. They were just trying to curry favor, hoping a few scraps might eventually fall from the table for them.
