Not everything works for everyone, and this is by far no exception, but without making up your mind, and really trying this or something like this.. time is truly ticking away on your quality of life... Why not join me on this journey.. but hold on this ride has some bumps and turns..

The only part of this wonderful ending, that is truly sad, unfortunately, Dr Atkins died before these results were published. NOW, WHEN IS DINNER?

It's the weekend, and it's baseball playoff time. For me, that means pizza and beer.

I used to be a skeptic of this type of diet because it just didn't seem to be right to eat this way. Fortuately I gave it a try in April and I have been astounded by it's success. I have lost 87 pounds since April. Check my profile page to see what I look like now.

Contrary to what the skeptics say, this is not an "all-you-can-eat-meat" diet. Actually I eat less meat then I did before starting this lifestyle and I eat far more fish, vegetables, berries, eggs, cheese, nuts, olive oil and yogurt then I did before changing my way of eating.

Thanks for this! I'm doing well on lower-carb but am just starting a round of serious Atkins; this is very timely and motivating!

I've been on Atkins for almost a month and I have lost 15 pounds and I have more energy than I know what to do with. I LIKE to exercise now (hated it before)! My reflux is gone, my mood swings are gone, my racing heartbeat is gone, constant fatigue is gone, skin cleared up and I feel great! I'm an Atkins believer.

Add me to your Atkins PING list, please!

I like how this article correlated the increase in public fatness with the rise of the lowfat/highcarb dietary recommendations.
I've long thought the same thing.

Haven't tried Atkins because I don't think I can cut carbs out completely even at first, for a multitude of reasons.

What's working pretty well for me is a modified Zone diet. I'm not so good at keeping track of grams etc. but if I follow the following rules it keeps it in balance:

At each meal, 1 protein serving the size of the palm of your hand. For carbs, If "good carb" (vegetable) then 2 servings each the size of your fist. If "bad carb" (rice, pasta, etc) then 1 serving the size of your fist. Fat usually comes with the protein so you don't have to add any.

If I stick with this I'm never hungry, lose weight (albeit slowly), feel better, and can still eat out, I just have to visually balance the portions according to the hand rule above.

I've lost 45 pounds on Atkins, and look better than I have for years. It was easy -- I was never hungry.

Do you have a list that's specifically for Atkins info? If so, please add me to it. If not, please disregard. Thanks! :-)

I lost 40 lbs doing Atkins. When the people I worked with saw how well it worked for me, they started doing it, too. So far, a lot of fat has disappeared, but no kidney failures or heart attacks.

My only problem with the diet is the lack of good stuff to drink. I don't care for the Diet Rite drinks that much, although I use them, and have gotten to the point where I *despise* water.

Still, from 200 lbs to 160 lbs with no problems or regrets....can't beat it with a celery stick. :-)

Whether you're eating Atkin's, or a more traditional low-fat diet, it all comes down to the calories consumed. Digestion doesn't burn that much in the way of calories. If you like meat and cheese, you'll do well with Atkins. If not, you won't do well with it.

The Atkins approach was certainly the key to achieving and maintaining my weight at 158 lbs (male, 5’10”). However, I found one effect of the low-carb diet worked against me until I recognized the problem and the solution. I’ll mention it here for those who are just starting the Atkins diet.

I can testify to the fact that, for some people, the Atkins diet can significantly suppress hunger between meals once the maintenance phase of the diet is reached. On days that I was extremely busy, I would sometimes eat only two meals or even just one meal during the day. For several days after these semi-fasting days, I usually gained 3-4 lbs with no change in diet. I eventually realized that it’s important for me to eat at least three low-carb meals a day, even if hunger is not present. For some people, the maintenance phase of Atkins might place their metabolism in a state of equilibrium that easily switches to storing fat; probably the body’s response to low calorie intake to protect it from perceived starvation.

Keep this in mind if you are complying with the diet but experience weight gain in the maintenance phase.
