I say yes. If there's bad blood, it's no more than between Bush Sr. and Reagan after the 1980 primaries. Remember Bush Sr. talked of REagan's "voodoo economics". McClintock has pulled his punches re. Arnold; he didn't fire at him at the debate. McClintock has elevated the issues discussion and kept Arnold from straying too far left.
Besides that, we could USE McClintock's expertise in a high budget and policymaking post.
The only argument I could see on the other side is that McC would be better groomed to take on Boxer in the US Senate race.

What an emotional, moving plea. I'm still voting for Arnie and I know God's Will be done.

It now appears that Tom McClintock will have the extraordinary good fortune of being merely irrelevant.
If Arnold had connected less effectively with the vast majority of relatively non-political voters who are disgusted by "politics as usual" on BOTH ends of the political spectrum, or if the Gray Davis "slime machine" had been able to find some more powerful dirt on Arnold, or if Bustamante had not been such a complete buffoon...
Tom McClintock's well-intentioned, but dreadfully misguided crusade could have cost this state an absolutely essential victory against the forces of darkness.
Perhaps Sabertooth is correct, and Tom can redeem himself by laboring successfully in the fields of the referenda, but in my humble opinion, he still requires CONSIDERABLE improvement in his team-building skills if he ever expects to be "ready for prime time" in any major statewide election.

The only "bashing" going on here is by your side. This is not an issue of sides. I'm just fed up with the crap.
I'm tired of the devicsive rhetoric that has been replacing honest exchanges recently on this forum. To a point, I'm tired of the ad hominem replys that are becomming increasingly more frequent. Reply #65 above is an excellent example.
Support a cause in the affirmative but take the juvenile and banal comments elsewhere. If someone challenges a closely held proposition, by all means, return the fire but stop attacking the opponent personally.
Try issues and ideas instead of people and personalities and above all avoid pronouns like you and your.
To: churchillbuff
It won't happen. Pete Wilson and Karl Rove won't allow it, even if Arnold says otherwise.

Its time for McClintock and a few of his looney tune supporters to be pitched out of the Republican Party on their collective keisters. Somewhere in your childish temper tantrum, you might recall (pun intended) that McClintock's supporters are pulling eighteen percent in the polls. Can Arnold win the next general election on forty percent of the vote? Then maybe you shouldn't be so quick to kick us out of the Big Tent.

Taking a break from the walk to read a bit, and what do I find but yours? Great post, thank you.

McClintock blew any chance of being anything under Arnold by not pulling out.
McClintock couldn't run for dog catcher any more in CA.

McClintock's political career as a "conservative" is over. Absolute horse dung. You need a bigger telescope, too much distance between you and the events.....
McClintock has a hell of a lot of respect from *millions* here. Even the majority of people that aren't voting for him will agree with this.
Trust me......

No offense but some of you don't have a clue to what is really going on.
McClintock has great respect here, most that don't plan on voting for him respect him.
Bottom line, Californians are putting the political noose around Gray Davis's neck. It's historic.
Even if Schwarzenegger gets it, California will be light years ahead and better off with Davis gone
I noted your from NY. Be sure to wave as Gray Davis returns home to NY in total disgrace. It'll be just in time for the NY winter...

Actually, unless we can recall Arnold in six months the career of the Republican Party as a conservative party is over. How about viewing it as the party of pragmatism and common sense, as opposed to a "one size fits all" label that no longer can be defined?

Sorry but I don't agree. You are being overly harsh at the realities of politics.
You can bet the two camps have had contact and, while I am sure Arnold would have preferred McC had pulled out, it gave the entire state a good teaching lesson of republican/conservative policies.
What could they learn from the hate mongers on the socialist side? Nada.
I think this will pull the republicans and California conservatives even closer in the next 3 years.

Well, yes I can.

How about viewing it as the party of pragmatism and common sense Sure. One that gets 25% of the vote.
To: JoeSchem
You are so right. At the beginning of this recall it was said that Arnold and Cruz, the frontrunners, were also the two who could never win their party's primary. This recall is a fluke. In a regular election the conservative vote is essential to win. Those who wish to kick conservatives out of the Republican party should realize that they would never win an election again.
