We can ping-pong this bump. I'm being selfish....want to see activity on this thread. We got more news in bits and pieces from my brother about the attack on his convoy last Monday. It was HIS soldier that died, and my brother tried to save him, but couldn't. It was a small convoy, so John was very very lucky not to be hurt.
Was he protected by the FreeRepublic prayer warriors? He's only been in Iraq 1 month and on this list for as long. Keep at it, I know that I am having trouble sleeping these days.
He was 8 years old when I left for college, the same age as my son is now. He is sort of imprinted in my mind at that age. As a mother myself, I don't know how my mom can stand it.
Thanks gang.

Was he protected by the FreeRepublic prayer warriors? I think your brother...and I...have both been protected...and are still being protected...by many prayer warriors, Ex89. Just as you and your family are being protected by prayer warriors to prevent something from sneaking up on you folks when you're not looking. ;)
Bump.

I couldn't agree with you more. Bumps for the troops prayer list and for all the brave young men and women who I have to thank for my continued freedom.
Extra special prayers for your brother who has just endured something noone should have to. For our freedom...it's staggering.

Please tell your brother I said
Thank You for your service to our country.

Thank you for your post 31, Explorer. I dont view it as being selfish to want folks here to bump the thread, but rather as having enlightened self interest! In my opinion, those are quite different motivations!
I'm so sorry to hear of your brother John's terrible experience on the battlefield, and the loss of his friend and fellow soldier.
Of course, while I have no way of knowing whether the FR Prayer Warriors' prayers were protecting him, I can say with certitude that those prayers didnt hurt! I choose to believe that prayer and vigils held by loved ones do indeed, according to God's plan for each specific soul, make a huge difference in the amount of protection a soul has around him/her in times of danger.
May God bless you during your vigil for John. May He grant you rest and peace during that vigil.
Here is something that might help you go to sleep. I hold the belief that when we sleep, the Lord and His angels will sometimes allow us to join the angels in their work for our brothers and sisters here on earth. Before I go to sleep each night, I ask the Lord to let me be with them in their work with our troops.
I dont know if that fits in with your own belief system, but I just offer it as something that sometimes helps me sleep when I get anxious for our troops. I feel like, according to the Will of God, if I can tag along with the angels, then I can literally stand with our young people, and offer prayers on the spot, even though I may not remember that I did so when I wake up. I sometimes do wake up with the feeling that while I feel rested, I also feel that I've been busy! I have a strong feeling and belief that by asking to be with the angels at night, it fulfills the scriptural admonition, "Pray without ceasing!"
