Rush plausible theory of what happened with the pills
me | 10/03/03 | snooker

Posted on 10/03/2003 11:47:50 AM PDT by snooker

A lot of this drugs and Rush stuff isn't adding up for me. So let me try out a theory here.

Read this on http://www.thesmokinggun.com/doc_o_day/doc_o_day.html

If true it gives insight to the behind the scenes goings on.

Note that the two were running a Palm Beach-area pharmacy.

Now, what if Rush were a legitimate customer of the pharmacy these two owned. Just happened this way. With me so far?

So the maid may have been picking up Rush's legitimate prescriptions all along. So if anyone asked, she just says these are for Rush. Cool cover story for the maid/pusher who might get caught with the drugs eh?

OK lets say these two pharmacy owners were doing what is alleged on the smoking gun site, selling these pills on the black market. Well how do they cover their tracks at audit time? Simple. Rush is a customer. So they simply credit the excess purchases to his account. Why Rush's account? They assume that if anyone wants Rush's medical records he will resist with legal means. Might be why Rush is accused of buying enough of these pills to kill a horse ... hmmmm.

Neat scam we have here. All is fine until the cops start moving in. Then trouble. The maid might have been a pusher who was taking the excess "Rush pills" and selling them, not to Rush but anyone who wanted them. So Rush was part of the cover story for the dealers/pushers.

Now add this tidbit ... I remember Rush on-air several times saying he does not bill his insurance company for drug expenses, he just pays cash for them. He admitted to not keeping records of his drug purchases nor did he total it up for taxes at year end. So Rush was an accidental sitting duck for the scam.

So now Rush goes on the air. Says he doesn't know what is going on. Assume what Rush says is true for the moment and all else begins to make sense.

Curious don't you think.

Rush sounded good on his show today...Sure we want to know what happened, but we need to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Same type of thing happened to a doctor who worked for McCain's wife.

Given the claimed quantities of drug consumption, is it reasonable that he could have remained on the air day after day without it having some noticeable effects on his show?

There's a lot of pretty pointless speculation on this issue, but here is something that's pretty solid: If he were consuming all of them himself he would be dead.

How many pharmacists were upposed to be involved? I can't see one pharmacist who is remotely legitimate thinking that they can give a complete refill a day to someone and get away with it.

#13 I tend to agre with you: Rush may have been set up and if so he is wise to wait til the "other shoe" falls before saying anything. I personally have been set up in a legal fashion and it is difficult to react before you know what you are up against.
Rush is very wise not to react at this time. He may have to sue to clear his name after all this mud slinging.

Whoa... I think you may be on the money.

That would certainly make sense with what that dopey maid was saying--"He took 4600 pills in a 47 day period." "I was worried--It would kill an elephant!".

Christ. He is probably one of the only people who uses that pharmacy who pays upfront for his meds--I'll bet he was legally getting meds there during the hearing thing, and for his back.

Makes it pretty easy for the crooked pharmacists to skim off a bunch of pills--sell them on the black market and tally them under his account.

Plus, what do you want to bet that the pharmacy owners were 'rat scumbags who got a kick out of making Rush unknowingly the goat for their operation.

The Pharmacy is being investigated. His account was convenient to hide a bunch of drug transactions in because he paid cash and they didn't have to bill insurance for it to get the money. The maid probably did pick up his legitimate meds and got brought in on the deal by the pharmacist to make a few bucks. She is now facing prosecution and is trying to save her skin.

Ergo: there is an investigation. The cops did question Rush. He did take legitimate painkillers for pain (hey, I'm on Vicodin right now for an injury). The pharmacy used Rush as a 'goat' because he paid cash.

His advice to pols is always: "Don't deny something you haven't actually been accused of..."

Of course he doesn't know what the heck is going on--it's an investigation of a bunch of people who incidentally dragged his name into it...

I agree with both of you, I want facts yet the bashing is pretty unreal. It's amazing how fast a lot of folks on this site are so quick to bring down one of our own! With conservatives (if they are) like this, no wonder we keep losing ground...

You people are pathetic. Rush says little or nothing and you take that as evidence of guilt, or hiding something.

Dream on toads, your hatred of decency seeps out of your every word.

makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks for your post.

We're all wondering what happened--Rush said he got 30,000 emails. Well, for everyone that took the time to email him their support, there are many who didn't have the chance. I am one of them.

And, as a lawyer, I know that he can't talk right now about what's going on. Until they know what is happening, they can't make any statements.

My prayers are with you Rush.

"But I believe Rush will tell all in the end ... good or bad."

Yes, he will. He just can't talk right now because of his lawyer's advice... but he will.

I certainly believe the housekeeper was getting drugs for Rush in excess of what he was prescribed. I believe they were illegal. I also believe the housekeeper is misrepresenting where the drugs went to keep from being labeled a dealer. I mean after all she was getting them for her employer right? Yeah RIGHT!!! That is the ticket. I bet she was selling to several people and was nailed with buying 11 or 12 thousand pills and said I was getting them all for one person Rush. Immunity! That being said I am willing to bet my bottom dollar Rush is addicted to pain meds. It has happened to many a good man and when you have his means.....

We will find out sooner or later.

I'll bet anybody just about anything reasonable that 1) Limbaugh is guilty, and 2) He is washed out of radio pretty shortly on a massive wave of hypocrisy.

OOOOOOOO!!!!!

A sucker challenges!

Is your house paid for? If so, I'll expect the papers delivered to my abode. I'll allow you to stay........as my tenant!

Profound hearing loss associated with hydrocodone/acetaminophen abuse.

Friedman RA, House JW, Luxford WM, Gherini S, Mills D.

House Ear Clinic, Inc., Los Angeles, CA 90057, USA.

OBJECTIVES: To describe profound hearing loss associated with hydrocodone overuse and the successful rehabilitation of these patients with cochlear implantation. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective review. SETTING: A tertiary otologic referral center. PATIENTS: Twelve patients with rapidly progressive hearing loss and a concurrent history of hydrocodone overuse. Interventions: Comprehensive medical histories, physical findings, audiometric tests, and, in those patients undergoing cochlear implantation, postimplantation performance data were reviewed. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Clinical characteristics of hydrocodone-related hearing loss and open set word and sentence performance in those patients undergoing cochlear implantation. RESULTS: Hydrocodone overuse was associated with rapidly progressive sensorineural hearing loss in 12 patients. In four patients the initial presentation was unilateral, and two of the patients experienced vestibular symptoms. None of the 12 patients experienced improved thresholds after high-dose prednisone. Seven of the eight patients undergoing cochlear implantation have demonstrated early success with their devices. CONCLUSIONS: Hydrocodone is frequently prescribed in combination with acetaminophen for the relief of pain and has a side effects profile similar to other medications in its class. Although not described previously, overuse or abuse can be associated with a rapidly progressive sensorineural hearing loss. These patients can be successfully rehabilitated with cochlear implantation.

Man, I have to admit, I've seen some good stories about this but yours is the BEST! If you believe what you have written to be the truth then YOU must be taking as many pills as ole Rush. He's always said to take "personal responsibility" for your actions and for him to do any less now would be hypocricy of the highest order. I love Rush but if he did this he needs to come clean and I believe he will.

"But not as funny as your fantasy land "I need to defend Clinton Rush at any cost even before the facts are out" theory."

Okay... good point; you got in a good joke.

But there is a huge difference between diehard Clinton defenders and Freepers here, who, within the space of 24 hours, have refused to condemn someone on the base of (left-leaning) media reports, someone who has consistently been a true patriot and a friend to conservatives across the country.

Sorry. Rush was the only voice of sanity for years when for me. I would drive around putting my son to sleep for naps and listen to Rush (then I would transfer my son to the bed, then put Rush back on). And when we moved to Canada in late summer 2000, well, after the election, I would sit listening to the scratchy broadcast out of New York to get him when the election was happening. He was the only source of information I could get about the crazy situation in Florida.

Sorry, but there is no comparison. This thing has just blown up in all our faces. There is no comparison with diehard Dems defending Clinton even after he lost his law license in Arkansas.
