Sure is. Coca Cola is doing a test of concept on a prize giveaway next year. Going to track the winning purchase by satellite. Guess it won't be the Muslim fanatics sticking the chip in us afterall.

At least now we'll be able to track them when they grow up and cross the border.

Well, at least we'll be able to track the b*as*rds as they come across the border. 'COurse, the INS will still be unable to track them down and expell them.

Understood, and understand your incredulity. However, this technology makes it all possible. No buying or selling, being able to track folks, etc., Couldn't do that with a bar code.

The INS couldn't find it's ass with both hands and a road map.
At least not until they get rid of the PC crowd that dominates it's heirarchy.

"I thought bar codes were the 'marks' that indicated this?" Barcodes seemed more like the precursor; now that chip technology can actually implant these things under your skin it seems far closer to the real thing. But no matter how you look at it, as apochrypal or a new-age 'child safety' devise, this technology will soon enough morph into a government sponsored electronic leash for all of us; (under the guise of 'crime reduction' don't you know.)

this technology will soon enough morph into a government sponsored electronic leash for all of us; (under the guise of 'crime reduction' don't you know.) I'll bet they start by chipping sex-offenders; nobody is going to complain about that. And they'll do it retro-actively, in order to get the issue into the courts. Then, in order to make it possible to apply it retro-actively, SCOTUS will rule that there's no violation of civil liberty or constitutional rights involved. Then they'll have the legal power to chip anyone they choose.
Think it can't happen? Megan's Law paved the way, following the course of action noted above. Take a look at the result. This could be any of you.
got privacy?
Not any more.
To: steve50
Well, yes and no. The press rel by CocaCola was worded that way, but, there are no means by which an actual satellite 'tracks' anything, well I take that back.
Today's ELT's are capable of being located by a satellite, but these aren't quite small enough to park in a coke can so I suspect coke is embedding a GPS receiver in a *special* coke can and then every so often the 'coke can' reports back it's Longitude and Latitude via any one of a number of nationwide 2-way data service providers (like the 2-way pager folks Skytel or WebLinkWireless)...
