HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) _ A man who killed a woman and then wore some of her clothing in the days after the attack has agreed to serve a longer prison sentence because he did not want to plead guilty to a sex charge.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office offered Perry Cerf a deal in which he would serve 40 years in state prison after pleading guilty to murder and sexual assault charges in the death of Flor Andrade, 47. The Ecuadorean native, who came to the United States more than 10 years ago, had been living in Garfield and was working as an escort at the time of her death.
Cerf, 20, of Bergenfield, rejected the deal and instead pleaded guilty Thursday to murder and robbery charges, a deal that calls for him to serve 50 years in prison. He will not be eligible for parole until he is 62. ``Going to prison on a sex charge would be a safety concern for me,'' said Cerf, who has claimed that he drank his victim's blood after beating her to death. He met her on Nov. 25, 2002, when he contacted an escort service that she worked for, and apparently killed her that day.
Cerf, who had been freed from a juvenile detention center 10 days before the attack occurred, was arrested Nov. 28 after police stopped the car he was driving and later learned that it belonged to Andrade. The arrest led officers to a ravine next to a shuttered auto dealership in River Edge, where they found Andrade's nude body.
James Santulli, an assistant county prosecutor who handled the case, declined to provide details about the plea negotiations, but said he was pleased with the result. ``It ensures he is off the street and can't harm anybody for a substantial period of time,'' Santulli said.

This should provide Cerf a more favorable reception in the prison system.
